We were lucky to catch up with Zack King recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Zack, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on is a song I wrote called “Over & Over.” It’s centered around mental health and suicide prevention, topics that are incredibly personal to me. I’ve struggled with my own mental health for years and have experienced suicidal ideations in the past. Writing this song was a form of therapy for me, but it was also a way to speak directly to anyone who might be going through similar pain.
My goal with “Over & Over” is to reach as many people as possible and remind them that they’re not alone. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed, and there is help out there. People will miss you if you’re gone. Sometimes, just hearing that can make all the difference.
To amplify the message, I partnered with MusiCares, an organization doing incredible work in the mental health space, especially for musicians and creatives. Together, we’ve been able to bring more attention to these issues and create a supportive space where people can feel seen, heard, and understood.
This project isn’t just a song to me. It’s a mission. If it can help even one person feel less alone, then it’s already making a difference—and that’s just the beginning.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Zack King, I’m a pop-punk artist, songwriter, and performer based in Los Angeles, and my mission is simple: to turn real, raw emotion into music that connects, uplifts, and helps people feel less alone.
I’ve been passionate about music for as long as I can remember, but I really dove into it after going through my own battles with mental health. I’ve struggled with anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideations, and for a long time, I didn’t know how to process what I was feeling. Music became my outlet, my therapy, and eventually, my purpose. It helped me find my voice. Now I use that voice to tell my story and, hopefully, give others the words they might not know how to say themselves.
I create music that blends 2000s pop-punk nostalgia with modern energy and introspective lyricism. Think Blink-182 meets Machine Gun Kelly, with a touch of Jimmy Eat World and a whole lot of heart. My songs talk about relationships, identity, mental health, and the messy, beautiful chaos of figuring yourself out. It’s high-energy. It’s emotional. And it’s honest.
Outside of the music itself, I offer live shows that are more than just performances. They’re experiences where people can come, scream their hearts out, and feel understood. I also run mental health-focused campaigns and content to raise awareness and provide support for those who are struggling. I truly believe music can heal, and I’m doing everything I can to be part of that healing process for others.
What sets me apart is that I don’t pretend to have it all figured out, and I don’t want to. I write and share from a place of vulnerability, and I think people connect with that honesty. I’m not trying to be someone else or fit a mold. I’m just being myself, flaws and all, and hoping that encourages others to do the same.
I’m also building a community for people who connect with my music and are navigating their own mental health journeys. It’s called The Rebellion. You can join us on Facebook or in my private Instagram community, where we talk, share, support each other, and remind ourselves we’re not in this alone.
I’m most proud of the messages I get from fans who tell me my music helped them through something dark. That’s the real win. Whether it’s a breakup, a depressive spiral, or just a day where they needed to feel seen—the fact that something I made could make even a small difference in someone’s life means everything to me.
If you’re new to my world, here’s what I want you to know. This is a community, not just a brand. I make music for the misfits, the overthinkers, the heartbroken, the hopeful, and the ones still figuring it all out. I’m right there with you. We’re building something real here, and I’m just getting started.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being an artist is getting to create real community through my music. I’m not just writing songs to express myself—I’m trying to build a space where people who are struggling, who feel misunderstood, or who just need an outlet can come together and feel like they’re truly seen and supported. When someone tells me that a song helped them feel understood or gave them the strength to keep going, that means everything.
I also love that I get to bring back the music that shaped me. Pop-punk was my escape growing up, and now I get to put my own spin on it and breathe new life into the genre. It’s nostalgic, but it’s also fresh and honest—and I think a lot of people are craving that right now.
At the end of the day, it’s all about connection. Whether it’s helping someone through a tough moment or giving them something to scream along to in their car, being a part of that experience is why I do what I do.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely. My mission is to save lives and help people who are struggling. That’s the heart of everything I create. I’ve been in some really dark places myself, and I know how isolating and heavy that can feel. Music helped pull me through, and now I want to be that voice or that song someone hears right when they need it most.
Whether it’s through my lyrics, my live shows, or the community I’m building with The Rebellion, my goal is to create a space where people feel seen, understood, and reminded that their story isn’t over. If my music can help someone hold on, find hope, or feel even a little more human—I’m doing exactly what I’m here to do.
