Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Zack Behl. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Zack, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Over the past 3 years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a cycling team called the Pickle Bros. They are a team of bicyclists from central Illinois that formed in 2019 and have been going strong riding across the Midwest. Despite all the hardships this group has faced, they have held strong and made for an incredible team. This project has been a big part of my journey as a designer. It has challenged me in ways I couldn’t have imagined, while also allowing my imagination to run wild and create some truly unique stuff. But most importantly, my dad is a proud member of this group, and it has been so much fun working on this with him and my family. An experience I will never forget.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi, I’m Zack! I’m an Illustrator and Designer working in St. Charles, Missouri. I have been drawing since I was 2 years old and I create visuals ranging from high-flying superheroes to bike-riding pickles. Over the next 22 years, I have worked to hone my craft and learn everything I can about graphic design and illustration. It hasn’t been an easy road, but I’ve learned so much through dedicating myself to becoming an artist. What I would say I’m most proud of is that despite all the setbacks, all the worn down pencils and mangled erasers, I’ve never given up on my dream. I love what I do, and I love dreaming up and drawing new things for amazing people!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
When I was a kid, I went to Disney World with my family and I got to watch a Disney animator show us how to draw a bunch of characters. Ever since that day, I have been driven to be the best artist I can be, and hopefully someday inspire someone else like I was. Something so small has completely determined the course of my life, and I couldn’t imagine what life would be like if I couldn’t draw. Paying it forward is a principle that I think has helped shape my life, and I hope to be able to help someone else start their own creative journey one day.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth has been crucial in my ability to grow as a designer and as a business. I’m still relatively young for this industry, and that can sometimes be seen as a lack of experience and ability. Being able to have clients spread the word about their experiences both working with me and with what I can do has been incredibly important to ensuring that I get to continue pursuing my passion.
