We were lucky to catch up with Zack Baldwin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Zack, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry
Over the last few years, insurance has become a much more serious matter. This brings a large demand for true advisors in this industry as people are beginning to pay closer attention to what they’re paying for. What do I mean? The average consumer is spending 2-3x more on their household insurance expenses than the years before, and for that reason there has been an astronomical trend in people looking for quality help.
My business is formed around this trend. We are consumers ourself, so why not make the experience the best we possibly can? I believe consumers want to be informed of things that can add value to their life. Insurance is just one of the many ways we can not only pay attention to costs, but other options that may save exponential costs down the road.
After all, if there is one trend we can all agree on it’s that we never know what might happen tomorrow. It could be a pandemic, a catastrophe, or a world war. Insurance is just one thing we can do today to prepare for tomorrow.

Zack, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I appreciate the chance to share more about myself and my business. I hope this can encourage others to know that the course of business and life is not a walk in the park, it’s like trying to touch ground with no gravity. I am forever grateful for challenges, they only open more doors to more avenues.
I jumped into the property and casualty insurance industry after having interest in the financial services field. I received both my undergraduate and masters degree from Texas A&M College Station and Mays Business School. Early on, I realized how lucrative insurance is. If you can breathe, you probably have some form of insurance.
What I also found, is the incredible lack of standard across any sort of financial service. It’s almost like a modern restaurant chef these days: half the chefs won’t even eat what they cook. I worked for others, only to feel uninspired & that I wasn’t offering the best experience for the client. I was encouraged to put out more volume, and worry less of being quality help.
For that reason, I made the leap to start my own brand of standard, or as I like to say my “MOJO”. What energy do you put out for yourself? For others? For clients? You attract what you put out there.
Very simply: I own an independent insurance agency with the mission of providing the BEST MODERN EXPERIENCE possible. TexPro Insurance provides four tools that illustrate this:
– One-on-one advising: we will never give up classic one-to-one business.
-TECHNOLOGY & SOFTWARE: we have 20x more tools than you could possibly find online.
-Modern Insurance Agency: we aren’t dinosaurs, we utilize the best tools, companies, management tools, etc.
– We are Texas specific: we have 90% of the insurance companies in Texas. 9 times out of 10, we have a better experience for you.
After 5 years, I have grown an amazing agency. I have 3 amazing agents and can’t even grasp the goals we will accomplish as a team. With the intent to provide the best, that means we are always growing forward.
In conclusion, be the person you expect from the world. Set the standard high for yourself, the job you do, the business you own. How you do anything, is how you will end up doing everything.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Forming a TEAM.
I genuinely enjoy my team. That doesn’t mean we are having pillow fights and chit-chats. We are hustling.
I think the biggest advice I can give that seems to have come very naturally for me, is to create an environment where your employees don’t feel like “employees” but “teammates”. I don’t even like to call my agents employees; we are all on the same playing field.
As the team leader, I must set the standard and the energy. I am the conductor. Do things that your team respects you for. Be healthy, be in good shape, practice good money habits, be a good friend. SHOW your team the way.
You have to push the sled at the head of the pack, not call your pack to pull you along.

Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
Insurance is one of the best sales products out there, with so many different types!
There is nothing better than being able to branch out into other products under the same industry. This is a great chance to keep building sales through greatly formed relationships. People want to come back and buy from people they trust, and if that means they can sell them different insurance products this just creates even more opportunity to grow in this as a career.
For those looking for a CAREER: I strongly encourage you to look around the insurance space.
