We were lucky to catch up with Zachary Rippy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Zachary, thanks for joining us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your creative career?
Before audio, I was a general laborer for multiple construction companies and served tables. If there is anything that has motivated me or taught me to continue and persevere its the threat of going back to that. I didn’t like having a boss and not being in charge of my own time. I used to get up at 3:45am to be on the job working by 5:00. For a time, that job included following a asphalt layer with a shovel and filling in any holes of gaps before the roller gets there. Asphalt is laid around 200 degrees Fahrenheit and in the 120 degree AZ sun, that’s enough to make people do a lot more than get a different job. All day on your feet in AZ the sun, playing asphalt catch-up. I’m constantly reminded I’m only a few lazy decisions from being back there.

Zachary, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m (Zachary) Rippy, I run Sound Signal Audio which is an independent multimedia entity committed to helping artists from the underground achieve professional results. I do sound recording, engineering, and live reinforcement for a wide variety of artists from the most extremes of metal to the softest of indie and pop. Ive worked with Converge, Power Trip, Cave In, Soft Kill, Gatecreeper, Full of Hell, Chase Huglin and lots more.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
That shits a scam.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing for me is building something from nothing collectively. The ideal project for me is a group of people who have some good new ideas being me them and we together exercise them. Hopefully at the end we all feel like we’ve done the best we can. If we do AND the project takes off or hits, now THAT is what it’s all about. Every project is like a little lottery ticket and you never know what people are going to gravitate towards. Sometimes you are dead set a project is going to be huge and its crickets on release. Other times something is put out and nobody cares at first but after some time, they come around or trends shift and youre in the lime light. Nothing is cooler than doing something new you believe in and seeing people accept it.
