We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Zachary Lindsay. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Zachary below.
Zachary, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
With Photography I believe that is it purely subjective in nature, with that being said you can use any sort of Photographic medium and still create something beautiful. I use film photography as my art form because I was raised in the era of digital photos, so shooting on a more dated medium seemed to capture my vision perfectly. I want every photo I take to remind people of how they viewed the world as a child. Full of color, vibrance & and nuance.
I want my photos to evoke that emotion we felt when we first experienced something.
Zachary, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am Zachary Lindsay, A film photography artist based in Denver, CO. I am 26 years old. I have been doing photography professionally for a little over 6 years.
starting out in Alexandria, VA. I began my journey with photography through skateboarding, taking photos and videos of my friends. then began shooting for a clothing company I owned at the time and began to get noticed by other companies/creatives.
From there I started to do Commercial photography/Videography. I Began to travel and worked in places such as New Zealand, Australia & Indonesia. From connections that I made while traveling I started doing full time video work in Indonesia. I lived there for 1 year doing work for Companies such as Marriott Hotels, BGS Supply, Telelvisistar, and many others. Unfortunately that time that was supposed to be two years of indo living came to an end because of covid.
Covid Ultimately forced me to come back to the US and stay in The D.C. Area with my parents. during the pandemic I was introduced to film photography, I took a trip out to Denver, CO in June of 2020 to stay with my cousins and never left.
Now that 3 years have passed I have been doing photography for various companies in the Denver area and couldn’t be happier.
For my clients I like to provide images that no one else could give them, I feel like in the creative industry people often stick to the status quo and latest trends. I seek to provide my clients with photos that have an artistic flair but can also be used in a promotional way that is easy for the consumer to understand.
that is way I have chosen film to be my main medium so that I can truly encapsulate that vintage feel, and create a whole new image for a brand, model or individual.
I have also gotten into shooting music videos for local artists in Colorado and have been very proud of the visual stories we have told by doing so.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One of my first ever jobs in the creative industry was a documentary for Al Jezeera featuring a former Prime minister of Egypt.
I was working at a coffee shop in Washington, D.C. When a customer that new I was familiar with photography asked me if I could fill in on a project because he had hurt his back. He told me it was a small gig for a few days and I figured it wouldn’t hurt to get some experience.
When I showed up I was greeted by very established directors and producers, and of course the former PRIME MINISTER OF EGYPT and his security detail. Not having a clue what to do, the director told me I would be 1st AC. (Assistant Cameraman/Operator) given that I had no idea how to operate these VERY expensive camera’s the director and I almost simultaneously realized that I was way in over my head…but i came in with a very confident and humble approach and the director respected that and allowed me to work on the project for 4 days and even asked if I could continue working with him in NYC. So in any situation, be humble and confident and you will do fine.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding feeling of being a creative, is seeing your vision come to reality. it is by far the most gratifying feelings you can have.
