Zach , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love for you to start by sharing your thoughts about the pros and cons of family businesses.
Matt Venkus and I are brothers, and our close relationship has given us a unique perspective on what it means to run a family business. We’re fortunate to have built InFocus on the solid foundation of trust, which we believe is the key to making it work. While it’s true that mixing family and business can be risky, especially when money is involved, our bond has always been one of mutual respect and unwavering support. We’ve both seen firsthand how greed can tear relationships apart, but we’ve also witnessed how family can come together to build something extraordinary.
For us, the benefits of working together far outweigh the challenges. The trust we share allows us to not only grow our business but also enrich our lives. We both know that we have each other’s backs, no matter what obstacles come our way. Working with family isn’t always easy, but it’s an experience that’s filled with unique moments—leaps of faith, hard-earned successes, and celebrations that only family can truly appreciate.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello, my name is Zach Venkus, and I’m the co-founder of InFocus alongside my brother, Matt Venkus. We launched InFocus in January 2024, and we’ve been thoroughly enjoying the journey so far. Before starting this venture, both Matt and I gained diverse experience in various fields including marketing, graphic design, the service industry, and entrepreneurship.
Creativity has always been at the core of what we do.
From drawing and painting to photography and learning musical instruments, we’ve always been passionate about creative expression. Our entry into the real estate photography industry was spontaneous, stemming from a conversation with a family friend who works in the field. With his mentorship, we were able to establish a strong foundation for InFocus and continue pursuing our creative passions in this space.
At InFocus, we offer a comprehensive range of services including HDR photography, property measurements, 2D floor plans, aerial photography, 3D Zillow tours, walkthrough videos, virtual staging, and more. What separates us from the rest of our industry, is our drive to become a one stop shop for real estate marketing. The drive to simplify the home selling process for homeowners as well as the real estate agents.
We are deeply committed to supporting real estate agents in our community, helping them build successful careers. We take great pride in the quality of our work and the clear, open communication we maintain with our clients. We believe in the importance of face-to-face interactions and always guarantee the highest level of service.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
In the real estate photography market, our strongest reputation builders are quality and communication. These two pillars are the foundation of our business—without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today. Clear and effective communication has enabled us to not only connect with new clients but also cultivate long-term, healthy relationships with them.
Equally important, and at the heart of everything we do, is our commitment to quality. We focus on delivering consistent, visually stunning content that helps our clients sell homes faster and more effectively. By blending top-tier communication with exceptional quality, all while meeting deadlines, we’ve built a reputation that continues to grow. This strong foundation ensures that we’re well-positioned to succeed and evolve in the future.

Have you ever had to pivot?
2023 was a pivotal year for Matt and me. We had both been working towards the dream of self-employment, running our own side businesses in an effort to build our careers. However, at that point, we hit a wall—my marketing career had plateaued, and Matt was facing challenges with his own business venture. This led us to the difficult decision of stepping away from our individual projects simultaneously.
We were faced with a choice: continue pursuing corporate careers or take a leap of faith and bet on ourselves to create something new. It was during this uncertain period that InFocus was born. Making that decision wasn’t easy, and the journey has certainly come with its challenges. But, driven by our personal determination, every obstacle we’ve overcome has made the rewards worth it, day after day.
