We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Zach Rohe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Zach below.
Zach, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I spent years taking pictures but it wasn’t until I made the full commitment to photography as an art that my work started to click. I wish I would have made this commitiment sooner, and it involved just working on being a better photographer every day.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started taking photos as a child when I would want a visual recording of the awesome places I travelled to. Growing up in Baltimore, I was enamoured by the American West and the national park system… I still am today! Over the years I got more and more serious about photography and travelling, and about 2010 things really started moving along.
By 2012 I started selling my first prints and wall art as a landscape photographer. In 2016 I shot my first portrait sessions and weddings. Now in 2023, I have shot over 30 weddings this year already and even more portrait sessions. My landscape sales have increased dramatically and I have a national following.
My love of photography and willingness to learn is what keeps me going. I also enjoy all types of photography, so not only can I do it all but I’m also able to adapt to changing situations.
Have you ever had to pivot?
The past few years I have had to devote a lot of time to marketing and client experiences. This has llowed me to reach more people and have happier clients as well.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I actually follow the historical photographers like Ansel Adams and see what they did to succeed.
