We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Zach Person. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Zach below.
Zach, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I started playing guitar when I was ten years old after watching punk bands perform at my local skatepark in Moore County, North Carolina. I had my first lessons at the age of eleven with Baxter Clement (Owner of Casino Guitars in Southern Pines, NC) who encouraged me to dive deep into the history of blues and early rock and roll. The first video I pulled up on YouTube was a clip of B.B. King playing “The Thrill is Gone” while wearing a big, green and shiny jacket. I would soon find videos of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. My life was forever changed and there was no turning back.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m an indie-rock artist currently based in Atlanta, Georgia. My love of the music has taken me all over the world. Singing, playing guitar and song writing have been my greatest passions since I was kid. At the age of 13 my family moved from North Carolina to Houston, TX where I began playing my first shows. After high-school I did a brief stint on Season 15 of American Idol, before coming back home and moving to Austin, TX in 2017. In 2021 I released my first full-length album and began my official career as a touring musician. Since then I’ve shared stages and toured with and opened for acts such as Buddy Guy, Larkin Poe, Blackberry Smoke, Robert Cray, and and Kathy Valentine.
My second LP releases on Friday, March 01 and it titled, “Let’s Get Loud”. It was produced by Tyler Bryant (Nashville, TN) and was recorded over the course of a few years in various locations. Each song fits together to tell one bigger story about the last three years of my life.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
During the process of making this latest album, I had the fortunate opportunity to meet and work with the incredible Kathy Valentine (Member of The Go-Go’s). We wrote and recorded a song together titled, “We Don’t Play”. During the recording of the music video for the song, two thieves broke into our set and stole a member of our team’s wallet and cellphone. As you can imagine, this brought everyone much dismay and our video shoot came to an abrupt halt.
We were able to track the missing phone to a Best Buy 15 minutes from our shoot location. In a moment of spontaneity, my drummer (Jake Wyble) and I raced down the road to the Best Buy where we then found and tackled the thief, retrieving the stolen items. After about 20-30 minutes of us keeping the thief pinned to the ground the police arrived and arrested him. He apparently had history of identity theft and had been wanted for some time.
Once we arrived back to the video shoot with everything, our team rejoiced and we then resumed filming with the added burst of adrenaline and dopamine rush of our collective victory.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist for me is building relationships and connecting with people. So many of my most treasured relationships have come either directly or indirectly through music. It’s fun to get to consistently collaborate with so many different types of people in every kind of industry. Also, connecting with music fans on a mass scale is an unbelievable feeling. The though that some idea you could have late on night making it from there, to pen and paper, to a recording desk, out into the world and then to have thousands of people singing the same melody and lyrics back to you has always fascinated me.
