We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Zach Attwood. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Zach below.
Zach, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
My best investment was definitely getting professional headshots done. When I started taking acting more seriously around 2019, I was being sent out for roles and using headshots that did not represent me and characters I can play. At the time, I didn’t know how important headsets were and that they could be making the difference between receiving auditions and not receiving anything. As soon as I invested in professional headshots and began to incorporate them, I saw a tremendous increase in the number of auditions I was receiving, and my agent at the time had many looks to choose from for the different types of roles I was being submitted for.

Zach, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born and raised in Austin, Texas. YeeHaw! Ever since I was a child, I’ve always had a passion for film and acting. In high school, I bought my first video camera and started making nature videos and creating day in the life videos. I enjoyed filming everything and wanted to learn more. I eventually joined the audio video production class at my high school and started to make videos for school there as well. I began acting in my classmates videos and my teacher suggested I try out acting in the school plays. I later joined the theater program at my school and the theater teacher there encouraged me to pursue acting outside of school as well. I joined a few Facebook groups and started to apply to films and tv shows. Eventually, I booked my first role in a short film called “Mortal Coil” and was flown out to Burbank, California for filming. From there, I was able to sign with an agent and begin auditioning for major films and tv shows. As of now, I have several projects lined up for the rest of the year and am getting to work on films with compelling stories and voices that need to be heard.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Rejection, has been a big part of my journey as an actor. Starting out at least, I didn’t book a lot of the auditions I had. You gotta be a little crazy to pursue acting. I don’t think think anybody that doesn’t love acting would continue to be rejected over and over again. If you really love it and are doing it for the right reasons, keep on pushing! One of my favorite quotes that I always keep in the back of my mind is “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity” by Seneca. You never know when when the right role for you will come along. And for the roles you don’t get, you need to let them go. But mostly importantly keep putting your all into each audition. People will take notice and eventually your time will come.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to create intriguing characters and tell compelling stories. There’s a long list of characters I want to play and people I want to learn about. If I can continue to play someone different each time and keep challenging myself I’ll be satisfied.
