We were lucky to catch up with Zaccari Frailey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Zaccari thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission is simple. My mission is to create a life of passion and fulfillment, for myself and the people around me.. J.Y.B. is a company people are excited to tell their family they got a job at.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Jerk Your Beef started as just an idea when I was 17 years old and a Senior in high school during the Covid-19 Pandemic. The creation began when my high school issued everyone a food benefits card to use for food throughout the summer, well.. I spent the entire $500 on beef jerky. It was safe to say I had a problem. Even though I loved beef jerky so much – I had two issues with it, 1 being it was too tough to chew, and 2 being it wasn’t very flavorful. So with that in mind I thought to create my own product and make the perfect beef jerky by ensuring its extreme tenderness, and mouthwatering flavor.
With big ideas I had to get to work, I was fortunate enough to use what was available to me at the time working in the restaurant business until I was able to save up and purchase my own equipment. But I still had one problem to face.. What was I going to call it?! It had to be something unique that you wouldn’t forget.
Jerk Your Beef was born, and thanks to everyone around me my biggest dream has become a reality
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Haha some may call it resilience.. some call it hard headed. But all last summer we were trying to keep up with market demand by cooking literally 24/7! I remember sleeping on the floor in my storage unit/office in 3 hour increments while the jerky cooked, I had no other choice it HAD to be done in time for the show in the morning otherwise we would miss out on the market that week. I would put the jerky on the smoker, set the alarm for when it would be done in 3 hours, and try to squeeze a nap in the middle right before being at the market by 7am.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Starting out with very little money, I would say one thing that really took some work was understanding that you had to spend money to make money. This was hard for me because starting something brand new and spending all of your very little dollars on something you don’t know for a fact, that will work out was very stressful.
