We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yvonne Tijerina a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Yvonne thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
My biggest risk so far happened in two parts. When I was faced with the choice to be a rid or die for my own toxicity or my own freedom. When I was a young adult, I married at twenty-one. Marring young wasn’t wrong what was wrong was the way it matured. For years I suffered “in moderate silence, I fought with and against my former spouse. Why? Because I was too stubborn and scared to walk away from what had become toxic to me. I felt that enduring the relationship was what was right and expected of me. I was consumed with the opinions of others about my life. Even with them being unaware of all the venomous parts of my marriage with my ex-husband”.
The decision to divorce was mine and brought the risk of possibly starting over with absolutely nothing. Faith and the courage to stand my ground saw me victorious in being granted the house I turned into a happy and safe home for me and my daughter.
The next part of the risk was allowing healthy healing to take place and embracing trusted love.
“In May of 2015, my Boaz and I became a couple. In October of 2018 we became one as Husband and Wife. I can honestly say that I know love can hurt. But I now know how good love can feel”.
Taking the personal risk of accepting trusted love did and does way more than put a daily smile on my face. Trusted love is the encouraging and safeguarding alliance behind the risk I take by being an Entrepreneur and Philanthropist.
For a deeper dive into the two-part risk, I spoke about. Readers can view my contribution to the book “God of a Second Chance”, Chapter 3 – RIDE OR DIE: For Toxic or Freedom. Purchasable online at https://3tproductions.square.site/product/god-of-a-second-chance/1?cs=true&cst=custom.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

About my business:
The Best Thing about my company is that it uses something as simple as a cup of tea. As a tool to remove the wedge that has been driven between natural and modern medicine. By changing the narrative that has people believing that the two don’t belong together. When the fact is, modern medicine solutions come directly from natural remedy solutions. Every time, we share the knowledge of natural healing and encourage patient and physician communication. We’re advocating for people to have full availability to all resources that will help them in achieving a healthy life and a holistic self-image

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process./
Yes, all ASHEmporium therapeutic-tea-blends are in house handcrafted manufactured in small batches. Outside of knowing my way around a kitchen, my enthusiasm for well-seasoned food and autodidact of herbalism. My first undertaking in developing a natural product for the business was the creation of a my “DM Cream”. It is a topical cream that assist in treating common skin irritation symptom of Dermatitis other wise know as Eczema. It came about from the needs of my immediate family members and myself.
My second attempted was our first therapeutic tea “Peaceful Breath”. This one I was hesitant to take on all on my own, so I enlisted the help of a tea vendor. Finding a vendor actual wasn’t that difficult for me. An at first, I thought it was the best idea ever since sliced bread. Then I learned the valuable lesson about Intellectual Property. My BIGGEST advice to anyone developing a product. Go above and beyond educating yourself and clearly understanding Intellectual Property and how it directly pertains to all the aspects of your product. Because you can work with a vendor to create a product you’re blissfully proud of. Then have your bliss shattered when it come down to who really owns the recipe. No matter how much work you devoted. Think of it like the children’s book “The Little Red Hen”. The Hen is the vendor, you are the animals the hen asked for help. However, instead of not giving help you tell the vendor what ingredients to use, do tastings and give vivid explanations of what you feel is missing or needs to be added. Because its your product being developed, right? Now that the product is completed to your satisfaction, you source the product from them, but you have no rights to the recipe. That lesson is still a personal sore spot, so recipes are directly created by me.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I am currently in the mist of one right now. Like many businesses the coronavirus pandemic seriously caused me to reevaluate the way my business operates. I have taken the business through a complete reconstruction with the assistance of I.C.C. Central Texas BDC. Changes have been implemented and data is being reviewed as it comes in. I truly hope returning/new D2C & B2B consumers perceive the value in the reconstruction of our products and services. It all was sincerely done in support of a better Us for them.
