We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Yvonne Matejka. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Yvonne below.
Yvonne, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you got your first non-friend, non-family client. Paint the picture for us so we can feel the same excitement you felt on that day.
My first real estate transaction was procured through an open house. Upon obtaining my license, I joined a great team and the lead agent had a spectacular new listing. On the day of my first open house, a lovely woman attended, instantly enamored with the property. Since she wasn’t represented by an agent, she opted to submit an offer through me. It marked a fantastic beginning to my career in real estate. While my initial transaction unfolded smoothly, the majority of my deals proved to be more challenging. I’m grateful that my first experience was so positive, as it provided me with the resilience to navigate through complicated situations I faced thereafter.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Born and raised in Ontario, Canada, I am an only child with a Czech background. Drawing from inspiration from my family, giving back to the community is very important to me. Finding myself at a crossroads after an almost fatal car accident and being limited due to injuries, I jokingly thought “What do you do with your life when you don’t know what else to do? Get your real estate license!” Making the decision to pursue this path has been the best choice I’ve ever made. I’m genuinely delighted that I have the opportunity to assist people in exciting times. What I’m most proud of is the book I am launching this summer. It’s a dark comedy that unveils the absurdity related to real estate – 25 short stories of my favorite transactions. Stay tuned!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Networking! I always say, your network is your net worth. People want to do business with people they know, like, and trust.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I have many stories. Stay tuned for my book!
But on a personal note, one journey that truly altered my life occurred when a tumor was discovered in my parotid gland, followed closely by a car accident, all within the span of a month. Fortunately, the tumor turned out to be benign, but the recovery from that surgery was incredibly challenging. I’m immensely grateful for my health and believe that overcoming these events has made me very resilient.
