We recently connected with Yvette Perret and have shared our conversation below.
Yvette, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I have always had a passion for photography. I grew up in a family that loved to take photos and video of everything! It was second nature for me to pull out a camera at gatherings and want to freeze time. After having my children and looking for a new lead on life…. I found myself back to photography. My husband encouraged me to look into photography and he bought me my first professional camera, lens, lights etc. Since that day, I have not looked back! My hobby, my passion has turned into SO MUCH MORE! I meet new people every day. I could not see myself doing anything else for work. I truly love my job.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
By title I am a photographer but to me it’s more than that. I feel special to capture times in people’s lives that they want to remember. You ever pick up an old family picture and just smile? Sometimes you can remember the day perfectly and others you might have long forgotten. To seal that exact moment with a photo, is priceless. Our days pass so quickly and, in my eyes, I just want to capture it all! I hope my clients feel my passion through their photos and cherish them for years to come.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I remember being out of work and my husband was the only one working. When he bought me my first camera I thought he spent too much and I shouldn’t keep such an expensive camera for a hobby. Who knew our $1,000 investment would turn Into so much more!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Starting a business is hard! A person wanting to be a business owner should know this. It’s days and nights thinking, contemplating, dreaming about ideas. Ideas that become reality are incredible but to get that point takes a lot of hard work. I remember practically giving away photoshoots just to get my name out in the world. I would dedicate 2 hours a day to marketing for myself, for my business. It worked! Little by little I started getting new clients. Those clients told their friends about me and so on. A picture is literally worth a thousand words. People would see my work and contact me daily for prices. It took time but being consistent paid off.
