We recently connected with Yutong (Susie) Lu and have shared our conversation below.
Yutong (Susie), thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I have been passionate about drawing since I was very young, and during my primary school years, I became fascinated with Japanese animation and manga, which ultimately led me to decide to pursue a career as an artist. Throughout my studies, I have found that conducting thorough research is incredibly important. By collecting different types of information and understanding various styles, I can better determine which style suits me best. Additionally, attending various workshops has allowed me to learn different drawing techniques and approaches to art.
In my opinion, the most critical aspect of being an artist is staying true to oneself and maintaining confidence. It is essential to understand that art is not limited to one particular style or aesthetic. Art is all-encompassing. That has been my experience thus far.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi everyone, I’m Yutong (Susie) Lu. I’m an illustrator graduated by Savannah Collage of art and Design. I’m focus on advertsing illustrations and package illustrations. In addition, I’m also a pattern desiger which can create some cute patterns.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think government can provide more opportunities for artists and creatives to showcase their work and gain exposure is crucial. This can include art exhibitions, performances, and other events where artists can showcase their work to a wider audience. It can also involve creating more public art spaces and installations that can be enjoyed by the community.
Also, supporting arts education in schools and beyond is critical. By providing opportunities for people to learn about art and creativity, we can foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of the value of art in society. This can help to create a more supportive and nurturing environment for artists and creatives, as well as ensure that future generations continue to appreciate and support the arts.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As an artist, I believe the most rewarding aspect is the sense of accomplishment that comes with creating a piece of art. When I finish a work, I feel a strong sense of satisfaction that is very therapeutic for me. And when my art is appreciated and recognized by others, it brings me even greater joy and provides me with an endless source of inspiration for my future creations.
