We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yusuf Gray a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Yusuf thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
The process for becoming stand-up comedian is similar to learning how to box. It’ takes a while to become seasoned in any field but stand-up comedy is literally “in your face” as soon as you touch the microphone. There is really nothing I feel I could’ve done to speed up the learning process. Every step was a step towards becoming better good or bad.
Yusuf , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started stand-up comedy on September 14, 2020 at an open mic night in Atlanta. Since then I have worked my way up to becoming one of the weekly host at the famous Uptown Comedy Corner. I have also experienced success on the internet with several viral videos that gained me an astounding amount of followers. I now have over 15,000 followers on but Instagram and Facebook. I currently host another comedy night at Fox Phase II on the west side of Atlanta also known as Bankhead.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a stand-up comedian is the freedom to be honest and purposeful in life. Finding one’s purpose is essential to understand life as a whole. I feel like I have found my purpose through stand-up comedy.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My audience on social consists mostly of people who love to be entertained in some form or fashion. My viral videos has culminated over 5 million views so far. Facebook and Instagram are my biggest social media platforms that I have seen the most success on.
