Yusef, appreciate you joining us today. The first dollar your firm earns is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
I owe getting my first client to the support of my family and their belief in my potential. My brothers trusted me enough to cancel services with their current accountant at the time and take a chance on me, despite my limited experience and resources. Their confidence in my ability to figure things out and dedicate myself fully inspired me to go above and beyond. I committed countless hours to research and hard work to ensure I not only met their accounting needs but also provided higher-quality service that improved their business operations. That experience became the foundation for my career, teaching me the value of trust, determination, and delivering real results.

I started my journey at the age of 21, driven by the realization that my hard work in the corporate world wasn’t being properly valued or compensated. With little money in my bank account and no steady income, I decided to take a leap of faith and build something of my own. I taught myself how to create a website, leveraging the accounting experience I had gained from previous jobs.
Starting virtually, as I couldn’t afford an office, I learned everything from marketing on a tight budget to efficiently onboarding clients. My motivation came from treating every business I worked with as if it were my own, striving to deliver measurable results and real value.
As my clients began to trust me and see the growth I helped bring to their businesses, they referred me to their networks, speaking highly of my work. I’m incredibly grateful for their support, as it has been instrumental in the growth of my firm. Today, I continue to honor that trust by delivering exceptional service and fostering lasting partnerships.
Over time, this trust and growth led to the evolution of Centennial Accounting Group, now staffed by CPAs, four skilled accountants, and Enrolled Agents. We are a growing team, continually expanding while staying true to our commitment to delivering services that provide long-term benefits for business owners. We take pride in being a trusted partner for businesses, ensuring their financial success and stability for years to come.
We are now on a mission of expanding our resources and network to have all the necessary tools needed to business owner that comes to us.


What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been building strong relationships and earning trust through results. We approach every client’s business as if it were my own, focusing on delivering tangible improvements and customized solutions. When clients see the positive impact on their businesses, they naturally become advocates, referring their networks to me and speaking highly of my work.
Additionally, we prioritized creating a seamless and professional onboarding experience with clear communication and consistent follow-ups. By demonstrating my commitment to their success, I’ve been able to foster long-term partnerships.


Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
One of the key approaches to managing a team and maintaining high morale is to avoid micromanagement. At Centennial Accounting Group, we treat our staff as co-owners of the firm, fostering a sense of accountability and pride in their work. Having experienced the challenges of corporate environments myself, I’ve made it a priority to create a workplace culture that empowers and values everyone.
We maintain a positive office environment with a passionate team that is here by choice, not obligation. Their voices matter, and we actively consider their thoughts and opinions when making company decisions. This collaborative approach not only keeps morale high but also strengthens our team dynamic.
As a leader, my primary goal is to guide and support the team to achieve collective success. I believe that when individuals feel respected, heard, and invested in the firm’s growth, they are naturally more motivated and fulfilled in their roles. By fostering mutual respect and a shared vision, we ensure that everyone thrives together.
