Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yuri Juarez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Yuri, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
In 2016 I released an album called “Guitar Sapiens” with several orchestral works and compositions. It was those kind of projects that any indie artist dream about it. I mean with your own music, arrangements, musical production an important highlight in my career, One hundred minutes of music with all the styles I was influenced by, I am talking about jazz, classical music, flamenco, fusion, Peruvian music (I am from Peru) a huge crossover that represented the pallet of sounds I was carrying in my heart and brain. I started the composition process in 2009 when I arrived to New York City and after a long process which includes a master degree in music at NYU, have a kid, fell in love and financial support from a dear friend this project was born finally in July of 2016 after hundred of hours writing and recording music.
This album include two pieces dedicated to special people. One of them was Carlos Hayre who was the greatest Peruvian musician during the twenty century. I wrote a sort of orchestral suite called “Hayre”, unfortunately he passed away in July of 2012 at the same moment I was at the studio in Lima recording the piece. Although he could listened an excerpt from my computer when he was at the hospital few months before his departure.
The second one was “Scena” dedicated for Ennio Morricone the amazing Italian composer and film scorer. I never meet him but I enjoyed and cried with his works. “Cinema Paradiso” and “Once upon a time in America” are deeply emotional, full of sensitivity and beauty. There are so many things to be grateful with musicians and artists in general. music improves our life in all senses, is not a decorative ornament or simply cheap entertainment, real music transforms our soul, recreating the life and connecting us with the upper world.
A meaningful project made us better musicians and also better humans. We have a powerful motivation for accomplish something that in fact could be useful like my own compositions as well , but when we feel that fire inside and desire for an urgent sharing it means that outside someone have the same desire for receiving, it is like a perfect and nature order.
Music is not just a career, discipline or industry, it is part of us, vibes with the universe and of course with us with a lot of rhythm.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I love music, astrology and wine, I have a wife and two kids, a lucky guy surrounded by love, struggling for money just a little bit, a normal dude trying to do their best. I am a creator, of music, friends, good feelings and I have the same wish for others. Life is a deeply mystery and I try to be a collector of beauty and make people happy in any level of happiness with music, a joke, a smile. In that sense I work with a sound, a blend of ingredients, Afro-Peruvian music in one side and global influences in the other one, with jazz in a main role and also several Latin American sounds that allowed me to be authentic and universal at the same time. My goal is take my music around the world not like a simple ambitious to be recognized or famous, it is just my pursuit of a life plenty of rich experiences, connecting with different cultures, places, people to understand my existence as a human being through music.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Improve the life. Be able to get an economic fulfillment working with something you love most. also being conscious that your work is improving and transforming people thanks to the beautiful energy of music. Sometimes I have seen people crying in the audience, deep emotions, expressive demonstrations of gratitude after our performance. Music is a miracle itself, we are just the messengers and who do not love good news?

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Oh yes of course, pursuit a career as an artist demands a lot of struggle and sacrifice. It is very important to be smart to pay your bills. Art satisfies very sophisticated needs not the the basic ones so is very important have more than one source of income in order to get sustainability you need to invest in yourself with good gear, special budget for recordings, promotion etc. Indie musicians are entrepreneurs who have to run some risks in order to succeed.
