We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yung Marco a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Yung , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I have made was investing in myself/craft. I wanted to make a difference in the music world and I realized that in order to do that I must be a lifelong student at it. I studied the difference between being a producer and a beatmaker, the protocol of the music industry, and music theory. This helped me change my approach toward curating projects with other creatives.

Yung , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Yung Marco. I am a music producer. I was first introduced to creating music through a good friend of mine during my freshman year of college. I remember first looking at FL Studio and thinking it was a video game. I began working hard and dedicating 2-3 years of my time to just learning the software and honing my skills as a producer. I then began to try to understand the music industry through the lens of a marketer in order to understand the full process of curating a project. I used producers such as Metro Boomin, TM88, and DJ ESCO as examples of how I should approach my career.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I first began making beats, I used to tell everyone I wanted to be the best music producer at my college. Someone told me that I am not even the best producer on my dorm room floor (I was the only producer on my dorm room floor). Back then I was so mad but looking back at it, it was pretty funny. I used that to fuel myself to be better. Also in the beginning a lot of blogs used to shun me a lot because I would send beats all the time to them for review and they believed I would not make it as far. I understood that one day the tide would change as long as I continue to work hard.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is creating something that is timeless. People will live and die, come and go, but music will be forever. So we as creatives should take our musical content very seriously because, for some people, that will be the only thing that represents us as people.
