We were lucky to catch up with Yung J recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Yung , thanks for joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
Honestly I don’t regret starting my business later. I’ve always wanted to do it, but I always wanted to do it right. I was still in the beginning stages of my career. But I knew then I wanted to start my own business. If I had started sooner, I’d probably would have made a lot of mistakes. Not saying I didn’t make any, but it would’ve taken longer for me to learn what I needed to know to be an entrepreneur. Looking back I don’t regret my experience. I learned some very valuable lessons and I not only applying those lessons to my career but my life as well.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a hip-hop artist, producer, actor. I started writing at 15 years old. I make beats for other artists and I also ghostwrite as well. What sets me apart from others is my authenticity and originality. In a industry where originality is limited, I’d like to think that I’m bringing originality back. I’m proud of my perseverance. I’ve faced many setbacks, but I didn’t let that stop me.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
You gotta be consistent and persistent. You’re going up against other creatives who want the same thing you want. As long as you upload engaging content consistently, you’ll definitely be able to build your followers. It’ll be challenging at first, but when you find your niche it will be a bit easier. It definitely requires time and patience. Greatness isn’t built overnight. It was challenging for me to build my audience on social media at first because I didn’t have the proper resources. I also wasn’t consistent as I should have been. It’s still challenging but I’m actively using new ways to build my audience.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
When I first began making music, I was only going to the studio to record. I knew nothing about making beats, producing or engineering. It was something I gradually learned along the way. I started making beats back in 2014. Then in 2019, I started to engineer. As a result of learning those skills, not only I am able to produce for other artists as well as myself I can also perfect my sound and also give fellow artists the sound that they are looking for. A major highlight is in 2020, during the pandemic I was operating a recording studio. I’ve so many connections just from me producing and engineering for others, and that’s something I’m thankful for. Not only am I building my audience, I’m also making a profit. 2 for 1 baby.
