We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yung AJ a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Yung, thanks for joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
So I was 16 and I got my first show and I was living in Duluth,Ga and I was feeling like all my neighborhood friends were gonna buy a ticket. Nope they was just saying nope and my brother came to me and he told me don’t give up and from that day I never gave up. I wish I did take time and really pursue earlier but I believe that things take time and I’m going to keep pushing. I know my gift and I know my talent and I’m willing to keep it going.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into the industry when I was young and really had interest in making music and sharing my story with the world. I always had sound that was new and vibrant but I started taking my unique presence and style seriously when I became 15 and I started making mixtapes and dropping songs even if they didn’t sound the best it was just to get my sound out there and became a local celebrity when I was 21years old I’m 26years old now and I got my friends to get behind me and see the vision of what I’m doing I seen and they seen a difference in audience growth so we just kept pushing the issue and changing the game from our perspective I made sure that I keep spreading love and support and making sure that me and my friend crew can keep seeing the dream
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I just kept posting and sharing my videos and you can do the same but also make sure you’re authentic and not chasing what’s trending but becoming the trend. I also just put alot into my content that I started learning the rhythm of it all that made me start reaching more of an audience. If any advice I could give just keep going you’re gonna see the results.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Not everyone like you. I had to learn that the hardway I learned to grow and really learn how to engage with other famous influences. I had a backlash of my following going down due to not posting. Once I realized okay it’s time to lock in that’s when I started grinding to get back the following
