We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Yuliya Semenovych. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Yuliya below.
Hi Yuliya, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I started dreaming up a place where wellness, kindness, and true foundational health were the norm when I was in my teens.
I was born in Ukraine and had a strong early influence of Eastern medicine from my grandparents – plants, movement, and habits were created during my early years. When I moved to the United States for my teen years and university education that view expanded to include Western medicine – prescriptions, regular doctor visits, and allergies were the standard.
Once I graduate university (I majored in International Business), I moved overseas – to New Zealand to be exact. And then to Singapore. Then Spain, Thailand, and Australia. My foundation was becoming deeper rooted in the integration between East meets West. My desire to learn and experience new cultures continued to inspire me to focus on preventative health care habits and practices.
The stark difference of coming back to the United States from Europe and Asia – the ads for medications on everything from TV to radio to travel magazines – the super-sized meals – the convenience lifestyle – and the general complaints of people around me even in their 30s told me there HAD to be a better way. I have a notebook of ideas for this center that I started writing in about 10 years ago.
I always knew this was something I would do, but my idea was way WAY bigger than what I could afford to start right now. I considered my options and decided that done was better than perfect and I could build on the way to that big dream.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Fifteen years ago I made a bucket list – 6 pages, single spaced, laminated. By the time I turned 30, I’ve lived and worked in 7 countries. I’ve jumped out of airplanes and moving vehicles. I’ve had dinner with celebrities and vagabonds. I’ve been engaged and heartbroken. I’ve explored Wonders of the World and some of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the country. And yet, my bucket list keeps growing. There are things I have yet to do and experience, and the only way to guarantee that it happens is by putting my health first.
When I suffered a stress fracture while training for a marathon, all while being in the best shape of my life, it hit me how crucial true data-driven, measured, health was. After being told I may need to get my femur screwed together, I negotiated with my doctor to let me do things my own way – and 2 months later I was 100% recovered.
Since opening Elixir Health and Wellness, I have helped clients 6-months-old to 86-years-old, with everything from getting athletes through off-season and injuries, speeding up recoveries from surgery and post-stroke healing, from improving performance on the golf course to infectious disease recovery, from boosting mental clarity in the boardroom for CEO’s to improving sleep for new moms.
We use integrative, non-invasive, state-of-the-art technology, and combine it with personalized protocols and data-driven health optimization programs. Red light therapy, mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy (mHBOT), compression therapy, and health optimization are the current staples.
Our clients are our friends and family. Everyone that comes through the door is not just a number, and we take the time to get know you, what matters to you, what your habits look like. We get to know your family and your friend group. We come out and support your victories. We cry with you when you go through a tough time. The difference with us is that we genuinely, truly, care.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Care more than anyone else. It’s really that simple.
When a client forgot his house key at the end of a session, I drove over when I closed up shop and dropped it off for him. When another client had a car accident on the Saturday, I came in over the weekend for them to get an emergency session in (I’m closed on weekends). When another client’s child had to stay home sick from school, I got some books and toys for them to play at the center while the client did her session.
We are all people, and treating each other with kindness is my most fundamental core value.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think learning to pivot is a skill every entrepreneur has to learn sooner than later.
I backed into cultivating this skill when my parents immigrated to the United States; none of us spoke English and we had almost no money. Every day was a pivot – communication, education, schooling, housing, everything was new and constantly evolving. I was bullied for not knowing English and being poor, which motivated me to be better than the people bullying me.
This somehow led me to discovering philosophy sometime in my early teens. The saying “if you’re not growing, you’re dying” became a personal mantra and anytime I became too comfortable I would take a big leap into something uncomfortable. Sometimes that leap was out of airplanes, other times it was a move to a country where I didn’t know anyone.
My career has been the same. I had to continue to learn, build new skills and reinvent myself as I moved around the world. All of this helped me be where I am today – the founder of Elixir Health and Wellness – a literal dream come true of a business.
