Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yuliya Ozdemir. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Yuliya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I know on my own experience what regular job is like. I worked in finance for 13 years, and it was tough. My job was all about dealing with fluctuating numbers, working long hours, and trying to make shareholders happy. Honestly, it never made me happy. Now, as a watercolor artist, it’s a whole different story. Creating art brings me so much joy. Unlike my old job, here I make something real that brings happiness to people. Going from just an idea to a finished piece is so satisfying, and I love that I can bring happiness to others through my art. So, yes, being an artist makes me really happy!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I, Yuliya, was born in Ukraine. For the last 5 years I’ve been living and creating in Turkey. Back in Ukraine I was drawing, painting in oil, studying graphical design, but after moving to Turkey I fully concentrated on watercolor. This medium charms me with its lightness. Even complicated, multi-layered artwork painted in watercolor looks airy and light.
I consider myself as an animal artist, with a particular passion for the pet portraits. I see a huge personality in each of our furry and feathered friends, which they don’t hide! My artistic style is mostly figurative and realistic with high focus on eyes, feather and fur color and texture of each specific animal.
My mission is to convey the character and mood of animals while creating portraits that feel like art, not just copies of photos.
Through my work, I bring the pet owners a daily reminder of the sweet moments with their animals. My art lets them relive those favorite memories every time they glance at the wall.
My artworks are represented by GaleriM Art Gallery and RC Art Gallery in Ankara, Turkey.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the best parts of being an artist is having control over my schedule. I appreciate being able to choose the topics I work on and set my own pace. But what truly makes it rewarding is the joy and appreciation from customers. Seeing their smiles when they connect with my art is the most fulfilling aspect for me.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
One of the best things I found on my creative journey is being part of the artist community. Being around people who share the same passion and goals is incredibly rewarding. When I was starting out, I struggled with questions about the art process, materials, and how to evaluate my work. Connecting with fellow artists turned out to be the most helpful resource. They provided the support and advice I needed, making my artistic journey much smoother and enjoyable.
