We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yulander Taylor a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Yulander, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?

There was and will always be defining moments. However, one of the defining moments that changed the trajectory was the moment I encountered patients/clients who had certain health issues and was not properly educated nor even given a plan for overall wellness and health. Instead was given a pill that caused them other issues that they did not have before. This lead me to offer Holistic Consulting.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I am a proud 50 year old woman who was born in 5th ward which was classified as a poverty and underprivileged community.in Houston Texas. I am married with three adult children and one grandson and currently live in the outskirts of The Woodlands Texas

I got into the industry because I was wrongly diagnosed a total of three times between 2008 thru 2021. Which lead me to become an advocate for myself. I begin to do research take classes that certified me in certain areas.

Then in 2012 Holistically You was birthed and I started offering holistic services in Spring, Texas which was reflexology, ear candling, foot detox and handcrafted products that’s essentially for the body, home and pets using all natural ingredients and essential oils.

With everything that I was doing and services that I was offering, I felt like it was more for me to do other than offering holistic services and I went back to school and completed my doctorate degree as a naturopathic doctor.

This was not an easy course. I had moments where I questioned myself and wanted to give me. I had one class where I wanted to take that book and run over it multiple times. Then I had a come to Jesus moment, to understand that this degree was not about me as a person, but me helping a community that may be in a similar situation that I was in when I was wrongly diagnosed. Which gives me the drive even to this day.

I want not only my service to the community but my life and my passion to inspire and encourage people to take ownership of their health and wellbeing knowing that they can do it… KEEP AT IT…YOU GOT THIS!

My services have now expanded, I am a holistic health and wellness contractor in Huntsville Texas. However outside of that I offer group talks on health and wellness, holistic wellness consultations, nutritional consultations, meal planning, emotional freedom technique, body contouring, healing touch, ear candling, foot detox, reflexology, body and muscle treatment,

I sale ladies activewear, spa essentials for the mind, body, home and pets, spa boxes,, essential oils, vitamins, homeopathic medicine, herbal tinctures and a total of 4 organic wellness herbal teas (immune support, relaxation, rest-well and detox)

Patients/Clients have had great success and have shared their experiences and testimonies of the care I provide to assist them with overall wellness and health. When you take the time to listen to your patient/client and they have an understanding that we’re working together as a team they are at ease. This allows me to share researched information/education which give them an understanding to make the best decision for their overall health and wellness. This is what sets me apart from other naturopathic doctors who maybe providing holistic care.

I would like for any and all potential patients/clients, followers, fans and seekers of the holistic world, I absolutely LOVE what I do, I strongly believe in patient/client education regarding any services, treatment, vitamins and other health benefits. Every product I create and service I provide is truly unique and to spa you to health.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

In 2021 my husband and I was presented an opportunity to purchase a brick and mortar building for me to operate my clinic out of. I was super excited to have something that would be my own. No more 2 to 3 year lease and having to uproot because of property damage or property being sold and lease increasing costs.

November 2021 we received the keys and was up and running my Christmas 2021. Through out the process we asked for the documents and when was everything going to be finalized and my husband and I kept getting the runaround. In December 2022 it was then determined that none of the documents were submitted or filed to the title company nor the county.

Needless to say I was devastated and in disbelief and had to move out of the brick and mortar building. This was so difficult because I no longer had a place to offer service.

In this I had another come to Jesus moment and realized that God offered me a way of escape and explained to me that what I prayed for was not going to be at that location. I prayed for a Wellness Center.

The pivotal moment was when I was offered an opportunity to service my patients/clients at a location that was in the same area in a well-known place and within the same time offered a contract at a clinic in Huntsville Texas.

Even though the situation with the brick and mortar did not work, there was serval opportunities for me to continue with serving the community.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

The lessons that I’ve learnt and still learning is that the only person who can stop you will be yourself. Not your family, friends, enemies or naysayers.

We have to keep at what we’ve been called to do in the earth. Remembering that situations and circumstances will always occur, but we have to be relentless in our pursuit of our dreams, passion and helping our community.

The backstory regarding the brick and mortar. I knew the person for years who we were supposed to be buying the building from. Regardless of the relationship do additional research, don’t sign anything on the spot without having an attorney or legal representation. As my mom always tell us and I did not do was make sure all you T’s are crossed and all your I’s are dotted.
