We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yuko Fukushima a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Yuko, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on recently was my collaboration with The Light Committee on a promotional campaign. It wasn’t just modeling — the studio had recently relocated, and the promo video involved creating actor headshots and interview shots. Being on set gave me firsthand experience of professional production, and I learned so much about teamwork, timing, and capturing the perfect shot.
Another highlight was modeling for AtElieR Saiko. I’ve always loved learning about makeup, but I had never had the chance to be a makeup model. I had admired AtElieR Saiko from Japan, seeing her work with makeup models on Japanese TV, and had always hoped to try it myself. After starting my work in entertainment, I discovered that she was looking for models on her YouTube program, and I got the opportunity to participate. This allowed me to explore the intersection of fashion, beauty, and creative expression — it was exciting to be part of a project that combined artistry with visual storytelling.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a professional creative in the entertainment and visual arts industry in acting, modeling, and art collaborator. After finishing high school, I went to LA for improve my English and have the chance to get familiar with a piece of American culture. And after finishing college in Japan, I spent some time in traveling and lived in Canada, the UK which helped me see something new about different cultures, a brand new idea about creativity that could be anything we’d like it to be; all this filled me up with passion for the entertainment industry. I remember when I went to New York for the first time and saw a Broadway show—I could not believe that someone beautiful thing was created, by all of those people, in this city and I knew I wanted to work in the creative industry.
Recently, I worked on a promotional campaign with The Light Committee were showing the studio and acted as an actor who looking for the head shot and also who is looking for business headshots.
I also got to model for AtElieR Saiko, which showing to audience for creative makeup and fashion/beauty/creative expression.
I approach every project with care and respect. I believe adaptability and enthusiasm are essential for success, and I’m proud of the meaningful experiences I’ve had on set and the creative growth I’ve achieved. Whenever challenges or concerns arise, I always communicate openly with the team and clients so that everyone feels positive about the collaboration. Additionally, if I don’t fully understand a character’s background or historical context, I make sure to study and research it thoroughly.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I like to watch Disney, American movies, and TV shows, which made me interested of the USA and one day I would like to visit. Slightly, I felt I would like to work in the entertainment industry. I went to Los Angeles after I graduated from high school in Japan. I remember I liked a lot and very different countries. After I came back to Japan, I knew that I wanted to see the world, and so I studied International Tourism in college as well as travelled many places. After graduating from college, I moved to Canada, England. And also, I visited many countries, I was also a web writer, which contributed to my creativity and ability to communicate. I began modeling and acting with no experience. I started in acting class and with small parts, always putting 100 percent into every opportunity. I modeled and learned from my projects, creative meetings and working with agents. Even highly competitive industry, I work hard and study hard, learning and adapting and creating opportunities for myself. It was in those experiences that I learned the virtues of resilience, patience and how every small step or diverse experience can lead to growth and bigger dreams.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
As an artist, my goal is to unite Eastern and Western civilization with Story. As someone who has lived and worked internationally, I’d like to believe that my work (creative projects) is reflective of different cultures and that, at the end of the day, regardless of where we are from- We all feel the same emotions & dreams.
I am proud to be Japanese, and I believe being true to my roots is what helps me stand out in Hollywood’s diverse melting pot. I love to push myself, learn new things and step outside of my comfort zone to meet new people People and create awesomeness together!
