We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Yueming Li. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Yueming below.
Yueming, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
That’s what happened when I was in elementary school. During that time, I was taking lots of art classes outside of school as a hobby. My teacher kept encouraging me to pursue art as a career, so my mom guided me to practice harder to see what I could do or how far I could go with art within a limited timeframe. I started taking more foundation classes each week with a bunch of other art students. At first, it was hard, but I still enjoyed it and never got bored. I found that during art practices, I would always lose track of time and improve my skills very quickly. This made me feel confident and very fortunate to be able to pursue my passion as a career in my life.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Yueming Li, I am an illustrator and concept designer from Beijing. I have worked as a concept designer since graduating from School of Visual Arts, and I am currently in my last year of an MFA program at Maryland Institute College of Art. I love using color, shape, and lighting to convey emotions and feelings in my illustrations and characters. I am currently interested in creating lifestyle, editorial, and book illustrations, and I am actively seeking job opportunities in these areas.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most fulfilling part of being an artist or creative is the process of solving complex visual problems. I find it rewarding to work within the constraints set by others, as this challenges me to improve and explore new ideas. I prefer working on projects where I can meet the requests of others while also showcasing my best visual skills, as opposed to having complete freedom with no limitations.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I believe that NFTs are a useful platform for trading digital art via the blockchain, as they provide artists with new opportunities to monetize their work and gain more control over their creations. I think it’s important to stay informed and learn about this new technology to keep up with current trends in the art world.
