We recently connected with Yueliang Luna Huang and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Yueliang Luna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
In 2019, when I actually was part of a large scale earthwork project called 800 Live Horses action painting. I have to admit that it was a grand miracle for the human and nature. When the 500-meter-long burlaps stretched out on the Mongolian vast prairie mixed with tons of acrylic paint, gold powder, cashmere and horse manure, 800 Mongolian horses galloped past on the burlap with the artist’s guide. At that moment, I knew I would move on to exploring more grand adventures ( not limited by the materials and space) and maybe different ways of doing ceramics or 2D paintings as usual. An oracle suddenly came from the mother of nature and the depths of prairies and universe.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a visual artist and the owner of Qkiddo ( a hand-made children’s accessories brand), I am inspired by my lifelong character’s as mother. Giving birth to new life and creating new things as a feminine instinct and powerful force is a gift and oracle from my role as a mother.
So my photography works and installations are always focus on the objects that are fragile but full of strength. I hope every audience will have connections with my works especially surrounded by a subtle, warm and supportive vibe. It is important to respect the material. I want to pass the raw clay and wood in the center to emphasize its beauty.. The first gift I gave to my little one was a pottery called The Letter of Mother which was made when I was pregnant. The curve and shape was exactly the look of a mom’s belly with the illustration ‘ Mi Amor’. And a new installation in 2022 called’ No roots’ made of wood and clay.
My processes are an accumulation of emotions, experiences and pure intuition lighting up a sense of naturalness and effortless approachability. Flowing vibrant forms and alteration in textures is the essence of my work; by playing around with these elements, I bring subtle shimmers of aliveness and variation to my art.
I do honor the beauty and subtle nuances of nature and its textures, shapes and depth. So I insist on this concept for my handmade children’s accessories brand: Qkiddo . Every headband, hair clip, hair tie and bow ties are unique designed and handmade by moms. We select organic cotton, silky velvet and French rhinestones. Our natural hair accessories are perfect for all ages.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes as I mentioned the call of spirit.
Keeping being creative and cherishing every moment of inspiration are the major drive in my life. And I do wish I could build a museum that would be renovated by an old factory. And I will design every single detail in that dream museum be myself.
The permanent collection of the museum are the works of my late partner, Chaolun Baatar ( especially his sculptures and earthworks installations of nomadic cultures), my own works that can trace the growth of my artistic career and most importantly the design collection of our little girl, Cherub who is gifted with designing since she was three years old.
I would like to call it the artistic spirit of. Passing down.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
To gain the powerful inner core and most pure energy in yourself.
The past four pandemic years, I’ve been through a lot, loss of my love, getting used to be a new mom, learning how to balance between my private creative time and accompanying with my kid, moving around in the city…
But during all these darkest moments and anxious days, the only comfort is being creative and then I can got the break from cold blooded reality. And I found that being an artist doesn’t mean that you need to be separate from your real life experience. To feel and be sensitive to all kinds feelings would be an endless journey and resource of your inspiration.
