We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ysabelle Ocampo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ysabelle below.
Alright, Ysabelle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I think every project I work on is meaningful to me. If it weren’t, I would typically turn it down… but there are two that meant a lot to me that I did recently on Instagram. The first one is the Hers post I had done for Father’s Day. My family is very important to me & the Hers family has been nothing but kind to my family & I. My dad loves their products just as much as I do & when I spoke with them about it, they sent out products just for my dad from the mens side of the company, Hims. I thought it was also special because we were blessed enough to be able to celebrate Father’s Day in Hawaii, with my parents & sisters. We brought the products with us & were able to shoot content while we were out there & that’s what I used for my Father’s Day post. Another project that was meaningful to me was my Goldilocks collaboration on Instagram. I had a few posts & stories for the company. We collaborated for Filipino-American history month, which also happens to be my birthday month! I grew up eating Goldilocks desserts, having a Goldilocks cake for my birthday almost every year when I was young. I live in Arizona & there is no Goldilocks bakery here… yet! (being hopeful haha!) It was awesome how they were able to make it all happen. I thought it was so important to be able to celebrate Filipino American history month as well. As a Filipina-American woman, it meant a lot. Projects like these make me feel SO grateful & appreciative of all these companies that want me to create for them. The most meaningful part is the memories they bring, the companies & the projects.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those of you who don’t know me, I am Ysabelle Ocampo. I am a micro influencer, UGC content creator & I also design & hand make jewelry for my small business! I first started creating jewelry & hair accessories in 2014, when I graduated high school. Around the same time, I would create content for companies through my personal Instagram. I always loved taking photos of literally everything. I remember getting my first camera when I was young & loving it. I would shoot & film everything I could. I think when Instagram popped off, it really inspired me. As time went on, I got more collaborations & deals & till this day, I still love it. I’ve taken a break from designing new jewelry for my small business, but still love creating whenever I can. Sometimes life gets crazy & I can’t wait to get back to it! I have the privilege to create content for companies who understand this chaos called life. Every company I’ve worked with has been nothing but supportive & helpful in every way. Content creating can be hard! I don’t have a specific niche & I think that’s what makes my content fun, you never know what you’ll get next! Sometimes I don’t even know! Hahaha. My favorite things to create are skincare, fashion & travel content. But I think what sets me apart is that I’ve been able to create content, share my life, yet, remain private all at the same time. I think that’s something to be proud of too. People always want more, but it’s hard to keep up sometimes. I think the best thing about it all is that my content is genuine. I have a lot of fun creating, but I like showing every part of my life that’s shareable. I want my followers to know I am a friend too, not just someone they follow.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I think the goal in my creative journey is to spread all the love & kindness to people. I think social media can sometimes be a place of negativity & hate, but my goal is to provide a safe space for my followers as well as myself. I think spreading confidence is something I hope my followers get from me as well. I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter what people think & it only matters how good you feel about yourself. As I grew older I learned that loving yourself starts from within & the rest will follow. People look up to me & I want to set a good example for them. I think the biggest thing is that I hope I can inspire others to love themselves. I feel empowered knowing that I feel confident with who I am & can only hope to inspire others along the way.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My audience on social media isn’t much, but it’s very meaningful. I think I have a great connection with a lot of people who follow me. I think creating for what you love helps a lot. It’s something that you’re passionate about & people follow you for who you are. They may have similarities with their passions. I think once I started creating content, my audience only went up from there. I don’t like creating content that feels generic, but personal. With the content I create, I want people to look at it & think “hey, I can do that too” …because if I can, so can you! Once I started getting invited to events, networking was another big part of it. I would like to say I’m a friendly & social person. Making friends at events is great, you can help one another while making content, but also have someone that knows what you are going through. It’s something you all have in common. You also never know who you will meet! Growing comes from being genuine & real with your audience.
