We were lucky to catch up with Young Nicky recently and have shared our conversation below.
Young , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned music from my uncle watching my uncle when I was a kid at my grandma’s house downstairs playing the piano! My Uncle Jeffrey Brooks has gold plaques & had songs on ykube 93.3 that he produced himself! I would of started pursuing music as a kid back then because I always use to write lyrics since the age of 10! My mom & lil sister use to find notebooks full of lyrics in my bedroom all the time & told my uncle that you’re nephew truly has a gift & talent! Writing things down especially want you want to do with music helps turn your vision you have in your head to life! The trails & tribulations of learning more back then was growing up fast & had to deal with life & be an adult as a kid!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a hip-hop artists & as an artist who makes music sometimes you have a way of speaking to people’s souls! I started making music when my homeboy called with an opportunity to get in the studio because he knew I wanted to make music! I just stay in my own lane with music because I’m bot doing this to impress no one I’m doing this because I got a passion for it that’s for anybody that is chasing dreams just do you without caring what others think cause most have no discipline to do what you’re doing!

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I made my song “Make It Last Forever” back in 2019 like a week before it was dropping on all digital platforms I was arrested on a something that I didn’t do for a false charge but the song hit 1k streams for it & a year or 2 later now it’s at 5k streams so I decided to make a video of it & drop it on my YouTube Channel(@Youngnicky) it’s almost 3k views & that let me know that really the sky is the limi! You ever hear that saying get knocked down 9 times but on that 10th time I shall rise? This is one of them situations! I’m a walking testimony to not give up on your dreams & when that storms hit learn how to weather it!

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
From my experience work together & not against each other so we can all win! If you work as a team you can achieve more than you being selfish & greedy! If you’re the only one winning on your team then something is wrong. You should never be afraid to lend a helping hand to someone to lift them up instead of trying to bring them down so you can feel like you’re superior than them I guess that’s the southern hospitality I learned from my grandma & mother that raised me to be a stand up guy!
