We recently connected with YOSHA SHAH and have shared our conversation below.
YOSHA, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I am not a born artist but was born with a creative mind. Never though of pursuing arts as a profession until I came across a women who inspired me “My Mom”. She worked as a daily soap artist and loved her job. Very hardworking and enjoyed doing whatever that makes her happy. Society criticism never ended but she never gave up. After seeing her confidence and dedication towards work I realized nothing is small, it is only people perspective of looking. This inspired me and I started doing what made my soul happy. I came USA after marriage where I was seating idle and doing nothing, so one day I went to the “Dollar Tree” and bought paper and pen to scribble. After seeing some Henna artists on social media I thought of drawing some henna tattoos. The journey started with pen and then ended with henna cones, I kept on practicing and toady I turned my hobby into profession. This turnover of getting into artistic path and pursing as profession was a great move as I love doing henna, meeting different people with different culture and this makes my soul happy.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am a professional henna artist with 7+ years of experience with henna art. I specializes in traditional Indian henna and modern contemporary art. My designs are unique and trendy. I have provided henna for brides & weddings, engagement ceremony, baby shower, parties of all sizes. I make fresh henna cones at home with no chemicals and color of henna stain is 100% natural.
Recently moved to Austin, TX and would love to collaborate with other henna artists and I look forward to work with them as collogues and not competitors.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Everyone needs to have goals in their respective life and without goals the journey is incomplete. When I started my journey as Henna Artist I was never exposed to broader group of artists who are into the same profession as yours. Now social media has so much much information to learn everyday from different artists that I look upon them and try to be better on my skills. My goal is to be better everyday and learn from my mistakes. It is important for me as an artist to learn and practice from my own mistakes and be better person.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew more henna artists who are into this journey from long and learn from them. It is important to evolve and come out of the comfort zone. There are so many different forms of henna art and I wish I could pursue them in the future.
