We were lucky to catch up with Yoona Wang recently and have shared our conversation below.
Yoona, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I firmly believe that a deep passion for your work is the fundamental key to success. In my role as a Film Line Producer, a significant part of my responsibilities revolves around effective communication and acting as a creative problem solver. Both of these aspects are something I truly enjoy. It’s this passion that keeps me motivated to carry out my tasks and ensure that shooting processes run smoothly and successfully. Therefore, I am convinced that a genuine interest in your pursuit is a potent driving force for achieving success.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Yoona. I graduated from ArtCenter College of Design with a major in film production two years ago. During my undergraduate studies, I discovered my passion in producing and primarily working as a line producer. My work has included an independent feature film, UNDER THE BURNING SUN, currently in post-production, and internationally recognized short films such as MY NIGHTS GLOW YELLOW, EXPECTANT, and AFTER. Additionally, I am currently participating in the 2023 Women in Film Line Producer Fellowship.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
To me, the most rewarding aspect of being a filmmaker is the chance to bring a story to life on the screen and share it with a global audience. The moving image is a fusion of diverse art forms that possesses remarkable potential. I’m deeply convinced that there are countless untold stories in the world waiting to be revealed. I believe that the power of the moving image can illuminate these unspoken narratives from a variety of perspectives, ultimately leading to a shift in people’s viewpoints and fostering a more inclusive and empathetic world.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The book HOPE FOR FILM, written by experienced producer Ted Hope, has inspired me greatly as I start my journey in the independent film industry. Hope have been working in the industry for years. His work including my all time favorite film, EAT DRINK MAN WOMEN and PUSHING HANDS.
HOPE FOR FILM provides a lot of valuable information about the independent film industry and a vision of what the future of independent cinema could be. It’s a fantastic resource and helpful guide for people like me who are trying to make their way in the world of filmmaking.
