We recently connected with Yoni Hernandez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Yoni , thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I guess it starts with truly taking a deep dive into your inner self and understanding what does success truly mean to you. Many people automatically think success comes in the form of having a lot of money, successful career, and fancy cars. The truth is – that is not the case. Especially in these times (since COVID hit) – the word success hits home differently for so many. Success can mean having a spouse and kids, owning a home, buying your first car, or as simple as being happy and feeling a sense of peace. Once you have defined what success means to you, I would impart to you some of the key steps you can take to reach your success.
1. Celebrated the small wins
2, Be committed
3. Appreciate the journey
4. Have faith
5, Be honest to yourself and those around you
6. Set SMART goals
7. Find a mentor
8. Set a routine and stay disciplined
9. Learn when to say no
10. Have a strong group of supporters (friends, family, etc.)

Yoni , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My parents are migrants from the Dominican Republic. They traveled to Queens, New York, where I was born. We moved around quite a bit, so I pretty much was raised between Lawrence, Massachusetts and Miami, Florida. However, for my parents, sister, and I – South Florida has always been home. My mother has told me several times that she could see I had a heart of service. She noticed from a young age that I loved helping others, and I still do! People are my passion! I enjoy providing a helping hand anytime I could, it can be in the form of volunteering or just standing up for those in need. Because of it, I pursued a career in Human Resources. I’ve been in Human Resources for over ten years, working mostly in the Hospitality industry. I look forward to assisting my teams in every capacity from career growth to anything regarding their family needs. My passion for HR eventually led me to open my own business called Shenius Consulting in 2020. Shenius Consulting is focused on helping those looking for a job. Through it, I’ve been able to help so many job applicants fix their resumes, provide career advice, practice their interviewing skills, change their current job search strategy, and ultimately land a job. I also wrote a book and released it in 2020 titled “Tired to Hired.” The focus of the book is to provide job applicants with a better job search strategy with cool secrets from an HR Professional that greatly increase their chances of getting a job offer.
However, one of my passion projects is a nonprofit I created in 2018 called Fierce Females. Fierce Females was created through many painful memories in my life. I’m a single mother of two that came from an abusive relationship, both mental and physical. The person I was with tried anyway he could to make me feel worthless. He once told me “You will be nothing without me” and “Who would ever care for a single mother with two kids” – among many other things. Fierce Females started as an app I created with the purpose of providing women with information that I wish I had in my lowest moments. What started as an app eventually became a plethora of free in-person monthly workshops held with a different topic and activity in mind, from Self Defense classes, ZUMBA workouts, to Personal Finance training (and a whole lot more).
It’s taken a lot to build up my self-esteem, find my faith, overcome depression, financial hardship, and learn how to work on myself, but having supportive family and friends has helped me so much. My goal is to let others know you aren’t alone – whatever your situation is, there are people here to help!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
When it comes to managing Fierce Females, the lesson learned (though still very much important) is that the higher the number of attendees the better your business will be. Which, to an extent is very much true; however, with Fierce I had to slightly adjust my perspective on this concept and shift it towards a true understanding that even if you have a small number of attendees, the impact you have unto them would be the most crucial time in your organization. DO NOT! become disappointed and provide half ass service just because the amount of clientele, guests, customers, etc. is low. Those individuals will help build your network but most importantly – you can highly impact their lives in an amazing way. As you continue to provide amazing service, every so often just step back and find ways to tweak your marketing approach. Every day is just one step closer to greatness.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
