We recently connected with Yolanda Nollie and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Yolanda thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
As I, sit down to share my thoughts about my journey and whether I’m happier as a business owner or if I miss the days of having a regular 9-5 job, I can’t help but feel a rush of emotions. It all started with believing in Yahweh, having faith, and envisioning my path forward.
There’s no denying that a 9-5 job was great for me as a young adult. It taught me the value of a dollar, how businesses work from the inside, and gave me hands-on experience. However, these were just survival jobs meant to support me while attending college in pursuit of better-paying opportunities. In fact, the goal was always to become my own boss and establish my business empire.
I recognized early on that life as a black woman would be filled with challenges. Not coming from white privilege or adhering to western beauty standards meant facing discrimination, sexual harassment, and workplace bullying. These experiences led me to embark on a journey in the naval military, studying General Psychology and business law along the way. My aim was to create a safer, compassionate work environment that set people up for success.
Today, I’m an executive director and executive producer of two companies and two podcasts. My multitasking abilities have served me well in the business world. Furthermore, my background is quite diverse: a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Marketing and Design from American Intercontinental University in Atlanta; a minor degree in legal studies from City College in Orlando; and an associate degree in IT Technology from WOZ U – University School of Technology.
In addition to all that, I’m also a best-selling author of the “How to Profit in Entertainment Social Media Guide,” freelance fitness and entertainment networking expert, CEO of Master Entertainment Workshops Corp 501c3. And recently, I was the Event Coordinator for Orlando International Film Festival 2022, where I received the OIFF Humanitarian Award and the Brainz Magazine Global 500 Leadership Award.
Looking back, it’s clear to me that every experience shaped me to become who I am today. So, am I happier as a business owner? Absolutely. That’s not to say the journey was painless, but facing obstacles and overcoming them has led to personal growth and success. I’m now in a position to give back to my community and provide opportunities for others, especially Christian entertainers and media influencers.
The road may have been tough, but the climb is worth it. After all, it’s not just about reaching the destination, but also enjoying the journey that got you there.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who haven’t had the chance to get to know me, let me give you a little insight into my journey. I started out by believing in myself when others didn’t and sought out incredible mentors with proven success in business. I knew that embarking on an entrepreneurial adventure would come with its fair share of risks, long hours, and relentless research. To keep things afloat, I juggled my survival job while also setting aside funds to pursue my ventures. Crafting a solid business strategy and planning my professional future became essential.
Drawing upon my business degree in sales and marketing background, I managed to grow an impressive network of over 85,000 colleagues within the entertainment and media realms. I realized that leveraging this network through unique marketing was crucial for success. So, in 2017 – when podcasting wasn’t the hot commodity it is today – I launched Radio & TV Entertainment AM/FM Podcast Show. I saw the immense potential this platform held as it reminded me of underground radio – where you can speak freely without constraints.
My aim was to infuse Christian business ethics and discernment into the world of entertainment and media through these podcast shows. Over time, I’ve been able to assist artists in various niches – from film, radio, and comedy to music – by acting as their entertainment and media business strategist and Master Entertainment connector. My work has led them to sign with illustrious agencies such as Gersh Talent Agency, Pelican Point Media, and more.
Additionally, through my nonprofit organization Master Entertainment Workshops Corp 501c3’s partnership with 7 Figure Funding, I’ve helped screenwriters and filmmakers secure funding and credit-building resources. What sets me apart is being a versatile artist – reminiscent of Sarah Vaughan – and excelling at singing, songwriting, directing, and executive producing across six companies.
As a best-selling author (How to Profit in Entertainment Social Media Guide) and the CEO of Master Entertainment Workshops Corp 501c3, GigShare org, and MasterPrintz Print & Design, I’ve received several awards and accolades for my contributions. I’m also the Event Coordinator for Orlando International Film Festival 2022, Assistant Event Coordinator for International Christian Film Festival 2023, and a Certified Travel Agent Consultant with my own travel agency, Platinum Entertainment Getaways. My story is one of determination, resilience, and faith in unhindered self-expression.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Allow me to introduce myself, Yolanda Nollie, and share a glimpse into my resilient journey. Growing up in a military family that frequently traveled internationally, I learned to rely on my faith and sought the guidance of successful mentors in business. Embarking on an entrepreneurial path presented its challenges, such as long hours and extensive research. To stay afloat, I balanced a survival job while allocating funds for my endeavors. Developing a robust business strategy and planning for my professional future became crucial.
Embracing risks empowered me to make strides in the entertainment and media sectors.
Launching my radio and TV entertainment podcast show was a personally-funded endeavor, motivated by my desire to not only bring celebrities onboard but also professionals and industry experts. My goal was to educate listeners and assist them in building generational wealth. This risk has since borne fruit, allowing me to express my creativity and granting me the freedom to choose co-hosts and topics for the podcast. Additionally, I’ve found success in founding Master Entertainment Workshops Corp 501(c)(3) (recipient of the OIFF Humanitarian Award in 2022), MasterPrintz Print & Design, Gigshare.org, as well as being a singer-songwriter.
My willingness to take risks has proved invaluable, enabling me to leave an impact in the entertainment and media sphere.
People often inquire about the habits that have contributed to my success. They include ambition, organization, a deep-rooted prayer relationship with God, ethical business practices, perseverance, clear vision, attention to detail, creativity, resilience, sales acumen, and a leadership mindset – particularly as a black female entrepreneur navigating rooms filled with non-African American business magnates with colossal egos. A profound lesson arose from collaborating with a film festival President who prioritized wealth but treated others like sheep: be cautious of who you associate with in business because wolves can be deceiving. Despite this experience, my team and I persevered and were honored with a Humanitarian award and recognition in the festival’s book.
My mission was to establish a platform aimed at educating independent entertainers and media influencers on the business aspects of the entertainment and media fields. As a female entrepreneur and philanthropist, my podcast helped guide listeners in creating generational wealth. I have since founded and presided over Master Entertainment Workshops Corp 501c3 Nonprofit, MasterPrintz Print & Design, and Gigshare.org, while also pursuing a career as a singer/songwriter. My Radio & TV Entertainment AM/FM Podcast Show not only showcases celebrities, but it also features professionals and industry experts who empower our listeners to thrive.
I am honored that Master Entertainment Workshops Corp 501c3 received the OIFF Humanitarian Award in 2022, and personally receiving the 500 Global Leadership Award by Brainz Magazine 2022 – two incredible accolades I am deeply grateful for.
