We were lucky to catch up with Yna Vargas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Yna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with a hypothetical question – if it were up to you, what would you change about the school or education system to better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career?
As a student, If we will talk about educational reform, I would highly suggest that education must always have the goal of being an “Education for All” and change must be in line with this primary goal. Of course, it is indisputable that many countries, especially those in the bracket of underdeveloped and developing ones experience low literacy rates due to various educational hindrances, like the inability to provide school buildings and facilities that can accommodate the number of students who will avail the services of the public education, the lack of teachers, and most specifically, poverty, the primary reason why our “supposed students” work at an early age and stop their education.
To provide a change in this kind of system, the government must prioritize and invest highly in education and reduce its cost or provide education free and accessible for all. Although some countries implement free education, we cannot deny the fact that some things like educational materials, books, and even food for everyday living are also a daily struggle that hinders students from properly absorbing a good education. These things must be given primary concern to effectively promote change in the system of education making it an “Education for All”.
In order to live a fulfilling life, the career path is one of the main contributors to be fulfilled, of course, education and proper mentorships must be provided for students to be able to set their meaningful career goals, these things may help them set a purpose and direction with their lives and eventually establish a career where they will feel pleased. Educational institutions play a crucial role in molding students to have this set of plans.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am still a student taking my education in the legal field but aside from that, I am also a young entrepreneur, an artist, a writer, and an animal advocate. My business is not usual, not conforming to the type as a very feminine woman. I operate a small concept barbershop named “The Amigos Barbershop” that started in the early pandemic. Although it has its hardships specifically in promoting because it is personally a struggle for me to make people believe that I know the field of my business as well as the onset effects of the pandemic, I am proud to say that Amigos made it and is now being established through and through as a business that provides high-quality grooming services catering to gentlemen. In terms of me being an artist and a writer, I currently manage my microblog which can be found on Instagram with the username @ynawrites. On that page, I am able to express my craft, art designs, as well as my thoughts and blogs. On the other hand, As an animal advocate, I am also currently managing a non-profit organization for stray animals which aims to fund-raise through online events featuring local artists, singers, and performers that can be found on Facebook with a page name @PausefurPAWS.
What I am most proud of is that despite being a student with a hectic schedule that requires a strict commitment to books and readings, I am able to multitask and still do things that I love, to which I feel most fulfilled as a person. What inspiration I could give to the potential readers who might read this is that we must always have the tenacity to rise up from the expected, to not be afraid in experiencing things that could widen our horizons, and to be the success no one saw coming, the success we truly are. Just like what Charlie said in the film “Perks of being a wallflower”, I swear, at this moment we are infinite.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
This, I can say, is the operation of Amigos. The onset effects of the pandemic have been a great challenge. Restrictions and limited operating capacity almost made me give up. I am glad that I was able to spring back into shape and start discovering the power of social media engagements. Through that medium, Amigos made it.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I am definitely an old soul and in the aspect of my journey as a creative, I wish I knew earlier how social media can help me promote my craft. Its features could have helped me expand somehow my audience.
