Ymani, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?

Success looks different for each person. However, success for me has come down to 3 important things: consistency, authenticity & hard-work. These 3 things have single handedly contributed to the growth and success of my business thus far. I always tell others “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work.” That phrase couldn’t be further from the truth. Hard-work as an entrepreneur is essential but CONSISTENT hard work is the key. If you can master consistency, the sky is the limit. In the midst of success don’t forget to be AUTHENTIC. I read an article that stated “50% of new businesses fail within the first 5 years,” I couldn’t be apart of that 50%.

Ymani, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Ymani Bass, Beauty Spa Owner & Esthetician. I’ve always had a love for beauty from a very young age so the fact that I am apart of this industry is no coincidence. I started my Esthetician journey back in January 2018, at the age of 18. I immediately fell in love with Esthetics! About 2 months shy of graduation I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, Ayla Reign. Unfortunately, this put a pause on my school journey. I wasn’t able to return to school until May of 2020. Although becoming a young mother slowed down my career path it certainly didn’t stop me. I decided upon graduating that I would start my own business. I decided to name my business The Reign Luxe, after my daughter. I officially opened my business in August of 2020! The last 2 years have been nothing short of amazing. I have grown an amazing platform on social media with over 200,000 followers combined. The Reign Luxe has become a safe space for different women all over Tampa Bay to recieve excellent beauty services such as facials and body hair removal. I am most proud of the community I’ve built on social media and the clients I’ve gained over the years. The Reign Luxe is a brand that stands for and with women of all different backgrounds, shapes & sizes. Beauty has no standard.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

I built my social media audience on both Instagram & Tik Tok. One day during a service a client advised me to start posting videos on Tik Tok because she thought I had the personality for it. I’ve always loved content creating but Tik Tok was something that intimidated me. I decided to give it a shot and sure enough people fell in love with my content. I found my niche (waxing) and stuck with it! I made videos that were not only relatable but also educational. I consistently posted videos and before I knew it I had over 100,000 followers. If I had to give any advice for those just starting to build their social media presence, it’d be.. stay consistent! The algorithm on social media is constantly changing so you have to keep up with it. It’s no walk in the park but if you notice people enjoy something you post continue to post that type of content. Don’t forget to have fun and be authentic!

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?

I love learning. I think it’s important for entrepreneurs to always be coachable. I listen to podcast and read books daily. A few books that have impacted my entrepreneurial thinking are Atomic Habits by James Clear, Profit First by Mike Michalowicz & The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey.
