Yinan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar you earn in a new endeavor is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.

In my perspective, while skill undoubtedly holds paramount importance, we cannot overlook the significance of networking and effectively managing one’s social media presence. As a concept artist, platforms such as ArtStation provide an excellent opportunity to showcase your talent and passion. Personally, I prioritize consistently updating my online portfolios and steadily increasing my follower base. By doing so, I have managed to capture the attention of several companies who have extended collaboration invitations to me :)

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I am currently employed as a concept artist at Respawn Entertainment, where I contribute to the development of Apex Legends. I completed my education at the ArtCenter College of Design, specializing in entertainment design. As a concept artist on Apex Legends, I primarily design Character and Hard-Surface stuff for the game. And speaking of what distinguishes me from others, in my opinion, is my efficiency and my unique, painterly artistic style. I take great pride in my art style and design, which is greatly influenced by my keen observational skills. This attention to detail allows me to create designs that are exceptionally believable and immersive.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

Undoubtedly, the most fulfilling aspect of being an artist lies in the adoration and appreciation my designs receive from people. The fact that my creations are cherished brings me immense happiness and serves as a constant source of inspiration to continuously produce exceptional designs.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

I have an immense passion for creating art, and one of the most exhilarating aspects for me is the ability to monetize my talent. However, if I were to pinpoint a specific aspiration, it would be my relentless pursuit of perfection. My ultimate goal is to continuously evolve as a designer and, more importantly, as an individual, pushing the boundaries of my capabilities to reach new heights.
