We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yilka Santana a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Yilka , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?

Being successful may be different for everyone, but I know that whatever it is for you will take effort, persistence, and focus.

I feel successful every day for the opportunity to keep working for my Goals and providing for my family. Every day is an opportunity to change someone’s life to be their best version.

Yilka , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

Talking about myself is one of the hardest things for me to do, but I can tell you that I am a Cuban American by naturalization who arrived in the country 20 years ago with nothing but a dream of a better life for my family and me. I am passionate about helping others, and I have been since I was a child. My mother was a nurse, and watching her care for others inspired me to become a Register Medical Assistant 17 years ago. Since then, I have had the opportunity to rotate for many specialties and work with many amazing people. During the pandemic, I decided to pursue my passion for helping others even further and become a Full Specialist and a Medical Esthetician. This allowed me to combine my knowledge and experience with the medical field and my love for helping others to provide a range of services that make my clients feel good from the inside out.

I started my own business while working part-time in a clinic, but eventually, I decided to go full-time and move to a more commercial space. The esthetic industry is incredibly competitive, especially with social media being the center of the world. However, being a business owner has taught me a lot, and I am proud of the services we offer at Principessa Med Spa LLC. We provide a range of services, such as Lash extensions, Hair extensions, Plasma treatments, and many others. We are particularly proud of our post-surgical care and Lymphatic drainage massage, as well as our IV Vitamin Therapy with IM vitamin injections, which is one of our most recent additions.

Adding a new service to our business is a meticulous process that requires a lot of hard work. Every service is like having a new baby that needs to be taken care of, and it requires a lot of investment and dedication to make it grow. My goal is always to look for good and healthy things that can benefit my clients’ health and beauty. When we start a new project, we ensure that we have the knowledge, space, investment, and horsepower to support the flow. Seeing our clients happy and satisfied with our services is the highest gratification.

At Principessa Med Spa LLC, we focus not only on providing services but also on educating our clients. For example, if a client gets a Facial, we take the time to teach them about their skin type and recommend the right skincare products for them. We want our clients to make informed decisions and feel confident about their choices. We want them to know that they can come to us with any questions or concerns, and we will be there to help them.
Our main focus right now is to educate our clients about the benefits of IV Vitaminize health with our IV infusion and injections. These procedures have many benefits, including immunity boosting, weight management, and pre-and post-surgical care. Pre- and post-operative IV infusion is a treatment that provides patients with essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients before and after surgery. The goal of this therapy is to ensure that the patient’s body has all the necessary nutrients for optimal healing and to reduce the risk of complications. Some of the nutrients required for proper healing include vitamin A, vitamin C, B vitamins, zinc, selenium, magnesium, and copper. We also want to offer support to bariatric surgical patients so that they do not feel like they have to choose between a healthy weight and healthy hair. Losing hair is one of the most common side effects of bariatric surgery due to a lack of vitamin absorption. At Principessa Med Spa, we offer an IV therapy called The Shine Blend for Nails, Skin, and Hair. This blend is designed to deliver ingredients that help promote healthy hair and nail growth while also combating oxidative stress caused by free radicals, giving your skin a youthful glow.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.

Initially, I was passionate about studying, but the pandemic forced me to explore other options. I had rotated through various departments in the clinical outpatient field and stumbled upon esthetics, which I found intriguing. I was fascinated by the field and realized the potential it held. After completing my training, I started working part-time on my own, and the more I learned, the more I realized how many opportunities were available in this field. I discovered many similarities between my previous careers and this new one, and I found myself building my business with great enthusiasm.

Any advice for managing a team?

I’ve learned that to be a good leader, it’s important to not only be able to follow in any situation but to also actively listen to others.
