We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Yibi & Nimrod. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Yibi & Nimrod below.
Yibi & Nimrod, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
If I was starting my business over again… I would just tell myself to believe, to believe in me, to not give up just becase im not seeing results fast doesn’t mean im not doing good. When we started the business it was just me as the photographer, then my husband came along as the videographer, and we started seeing more growth because we were offering photo & video. However one thing I would have done differently at the beginning, Is that I would have invested more in education. Yes, gear it’s important, and you would think the more expensive the equipment the better, and yes that could be true, but its more important and essential is to invest in education to get more knowledge about the business area, to make a good use of equipment and that way to be able to keep the best service, and learn more of the essentials of photography and videography.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi! We are Yibi and Nimrod!! A little bit about us, I’m from Venezuela and Nimrod is from Mexico. My little sister set us up on a blind date and we fell in love. :) After almost two years of dating we eloped, and are happily married doing what we love for a living.
I ( yibi ) stared loving photography 5 years ago, I fell in love with the art of making someone feel beautiful trough my lens, seeing their reaction when I showed them the pictures made me so happy I wanted more, so I started going to school to get a bachelors in photography. My husband nimrod , used to come with me to every shoot I was doing, and one day he decided to give it a try and try videography, he liked it so much, he joined the team, now were the perfect photo & video duo team.
We are so grateful for all the amazing people we get to meet In this industry and well as the many places we have travel to capture love stories,
We think what sets us apart from others is we are so passionate about what we do, we absolutely love what we do, this is more than a job for us, we get excited to go and captures people love stories, we care about people, and we will be your personal hyper trough out the day!!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
For us, most of our clients come from mouth to mouth, providing our clients with the best service and experience its a huge yes for us. Social media also plays a huge part of growing our clientele, it took us a little bit to understand and to learn how social media actually works, being present in your stories, in your reels, in your post, being real on social media makes the people know the person behind the lens, we try to be as present as we can, as active as we can so the followers can become potential clients and those can be come clients.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
For me ( yibi ) as previously mentioned, I moved from Venezuela to the United States 8 years ago, one day I just decided to give it a try and my parents got me my first camera kit from Costco, I remember I loved taking pictures, making people feel beautiful, coming up with new concepts, my first models were my sisters, I have two sisters that every time I had a fun idea in mind they would help me bring my idea to life. My hobbie turned into my side hustle and that is when I decided I wanted to do photography, so I started my bachelors, and was doing a couple of photo sessions a month for $30. In 2020 I married the love of my life, and he has been one of the biggest supporters in my business, he encourage to attend more workshops, more styled shoots, more content days to start building my portafolio during a slow time/season for photographers, it was in 2020 when I decided to need to pay more attention to my career, and decide If the is what I actually wanted to do for living
I was going full time to school and had two other jobs besides photography, my business slowly started growing to the point in where I needed more days, more hours, so I quitted one of my part time jobs, and kept taking photos and kept my other corporate job, a few months in, I saw my social media grow more, my clientele was growing and I was booking more and more out of state weddings to the point in where I decided it was about time to quit my corporate job and do photography full time. It was a scary step to take, being a small business owner takes a lot, there a lot of small things that go on on taking this step, but with my husband on my side it has been a smooth ride.
so that is the story on how my hobbie turned into a side hustle and the turned into my full time job.
