Yeral, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
As a family medicine and functional medicine physician for the last 12 yeara my career has been mainly serving and treating patients in the Urgent Care and in my Functional Medicine Clinic. I have always had a passion for skincare from the inside out and recall many conversations with my numerous patients, family and friends regarding their skin care concerns. These concerns combined for my search for the perfect skincare serum which would simplify our skin care routine and would be packed with only clean and scientifically and clinically studied ingredients recommended by Dermatologist and Anti aging experts, paved the road for me to take a risk to formulate my own skin care serum. I was told my many why reinvent the wheel and there are so many products on the market and the market is fierce and competitive. But I knew I had a great idea in my mind and I set out to create the amazing serum of my dreams. This serum is now sold online and in my clinic loved by my patients, friends and family.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
As a family medicine and functional medicine physician for the last 12 yeara my career has been rich with lessons on how to heal concerns like skin conditions and chronic medical conditions from the inside out. Over the last decade my passion for healing chronic skin conditions from the inside out was fueled more and more as I heard feedback from so many of my patients that they dreamed for the ultimate inclusive skin serum which is free of toxins, full of pure ingredients, effective for all skin types and functions as an efficient powerhouse for the skin that rejuvenated, hydrates, protects and repairs all in just one serum. So many of my patients, clients, friends and family were on the hunt for the perfect recipe to perfect their skin without harming it with toxic chemicals and procedures. My goal was to preserve ones natural beauty from the inside out and bringing out ones natural beauty and glow, without comprising ones health from the inside. So this inspired me to research the top dermatologist and anti aging expert recommended ingredients and their effective doses and formulating it into the perfect multipurpose skin serum that does it all, the “ All I need Serum”.
What sets me apart from others is that whatever advise I give or whatever I create I always keep my functional medicine background in mind. Functional Medicine is the field of medicine of healing from the root cause and not masking symptoms. So many products on the market right now contain toxic chemicals that increase shelf life and hadve glamrouous looks to the packaging, but in reality can be harmful to the skin and the body due to toxins. I designed by products with keeping all of that in mind and making sure I am healing from the inside out with clinically effective ingredients which are clean, non toxic, yet scientifically and clinically studied to give effective results. I am also of East Indian Heritage and have a passion for ancient ayurvedic medicine and wanted to be unique and incorporate that knowledge into my products. The perfect balance of Ayurvedic Medicine with groundbreaking modern medicine to formulate the perfect blend.
What I am most proud of is my authenticity and compassion towards my patients. Most of my patients come to me for my medical advise and honesty. They know that I stand for what I believe which is do no harm whenever I can. My patients also know my passion is about healing from the inside out and without toxic chemicals. So anything that I create will support everything that I stand such as my new serum.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Finding your passion and letting it fuel your drive is truly the key. You can be trained in so many different fields and have so much knowledge but if you don’t have passion or love for what you do to fuel it, then you will reach a road block. My medical knowledge and training in medicine and functional medicine was very helpful, but my passion to create what my patients and friends and family were asking for is what fueled me to create the perfect serum. I consider myself a compassionate person and I love listening to my patients, friends and family. When they tell me about something they want or wish for, my passion to help others starts to fuel me to create just what they want. That passion is what led me step out of my comfort zone of only practicing patient care as a physician and allowed me to open the doors to getting into research and development to create the perfect skin care serum for my patients and myself.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I first embarked on my journey to create the perfect skincare serum that I envisioned, I needed to interview and find the perfect chemist and manufacturer. I remember the first one that I interviewed they told me because I am a doctor and have my credibility I should just take a serum that was already successful and put a private label on it to make money. I was told this is what many doctors were doing for extra income. This did not set in my stomach well and I left very upset and discouraged. I did not want to take any serum and just put my name on it and sell. I wanted to create something that I was proud of and something that was uniquely created by me and represented what I believe in.
The next chemist I interviewed told me something similar. In his experience as a chemist who had retired he felt the risks of creating my new skin care serum was not worth the heartache and that there was just too much competition in the skincare market and that I should just continue with seeing patients which is less risky and practicle. This was also disappointing as this chemist was very knowledgeable in all the ingredients I wanted to use in my serum.
At this time point I was starting to feel defeated like my dream serum was never going to get started. I was not ready to give up yet. I looked into all of my contacts who were in marketing and sales whom I had a good relationship with and reached out to them even if they were not in the skincare industry. Then in late December when I was getting to the point of giving up, a woman who was the lead marketing and sales person for a clean supplement company returned my e-mail. She told me she was excited for me and gave me a contact of a woman who had her own CBD skin care company. At this time I was excited for the contact but also concerned that maybe this woman may not want to share her contacts with me because I was also creating a skin care company. But I put my fear aside and contacted her. To my surprise she was one of the most kindest woman I have ever met. Over e-mail she was so encouraging and told me she had 2 contacts in the field and gave me the one she was currently using. I was absolutely stunned as she trusted me enough to give me her chemist and manufacturer info. At this moment I also realized how incredible women like this one want to see other women rise and support them. It gave me a sense of wanting to pay it forward to other women in the future. To not be threatned by women in the same field but to support them and with our uniqueness there is room for all of us to succeed. It turned out the company she was using and I didn’t have the same vision in the formula I was creating so I asked her for the other contact. At this point this was my last chance and if this didn’t work out I may have given up. But it turned out that the next contact she gave me was the perfect one! She even told me she thought this company was better than the one she was using but she had already created a good relationship with the company she is using so she didn’t want to switch over. I was ecstatic! My 6 months journey of finding the best fit company for me had finallty happened after 4 failed attempts. I was on my way to my perfect skin care serum
Just a quick add on in terms of perserverance. Once I gave the company I had chosen to work for me to create my serum I gave them the ingredient list of the 11 ingredients that I wanted in my serum. I waited 2 months and they gave me my first sample. I looked at the ingredients in the sample and there were only 2 ingredients I had listed in my list of ingredients. The others were all ingredients that I did no ask for. I was upset and spoke with my contact person. She told me that many of the ingredients on my list they did not have and other clients never asked for so they just used the most popular ingredients that prior clients used. I was very upset as I had worked on my formula and only wanted the ingrediants I had on my list which I had carefully researched and choosen. The company was willing to purchase my ingredients as long as they knew I was going to use their services. So I agreed and they purchased all of the ingredients. They started to blend my ingredients and then there was an ingredient they had never worked with, it was the ingredient used in Ancient Indian Ayurvedic Medicine for healing skin cancers, skin inflammation, skin infections and for healing the skin. They told me that they had never worked with this ingredient and would not be able to use it in my serum. I again was upset because this was one of the key ingredients that made my serum so unique and different than others. I did not give up. If they have been using this in current Indian and Chinese medicine successfully then there must be a way to incorporate this ingredient. So then what I did was instead of looking at Medical Journals from Northern America and Europe, I looked at medical journals from East Asia. I found numerous medical journals that actually told us how to use the key ingredient I wanted in a serum and make it lipid soluble. I gave these articles to the chemist and their team and did not hear back because they understood what to do. Then a couple months later my perfect serum was created with the ingredients that I had asked for exactly the way I wanted without compromising anything. This was one of the most beautiful and amazing moments of my life. The exact serum that I had formulated and researched was created and when I placed it on my face I was ecstatic with the results…. It was just perfect.
