We were lucky to catch up with Yella Vanella recently and have shared our conversation below.
Yella, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had started sooner?
When I think back to when I started my career, I was determined to have a business that will create opportunities to give back worldwide. Had I wish I started sooner? No. Sometimes, I think about what could have happen, but there is nothing I can do about that. I am learning about what I need to do now, then applying it how it should go. I am grateful for the skills I have created and where I am now.
Yella, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been modeling since I was 8 months old. I had pictures in major store like Walmart and magazines that include ‘Wish Book’ and ‘Ebony Magazine’. I have a background in dancing, theater, acting, and sports. I have a love for giving back and being around animals.
I now work for myself, and other avenues to be able to utilize my own business with animal care taking and grooming. I also created a clothing line as well that will one day be able to create more for the world to offer them help. I am looking to create truth and good customer service by giving the people around me hope to having a way of living.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was learning that there were many situation that I put myself in because I tolerated it. One thing I will never do is blame myself for something that is wrong to me. It’s wrong to me. When you know that something isn’t for you, you have the power to leave the situation for your health and safety. We also can’t forget that people might not have the same views in life, which give you a little bit of humbleness! I think that with a lot of the problems I am having, there were places I know that I was wrong, and I am forever sorry about it, but I also know what I want in life and I can chose better choices after realizing I’m making the same ones over and over again.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
One thing I would say about creatives, to non-creatives is that there are so many factor you can get into when doing it all yourself. Once you know that the people around you will help you, you can share it confidently to the ones who get your oath to your story.
It’s always scary to start off doing it yourself, but it’s even harder to never starts. So just begin with a little bit, and then add more each step when you can. The first step is to never stop. Breaks are when you need it, but work can be any time you have. It’s your time to yourself, happiness, and your craft.
