We were lucky to catch up with Yelena York recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Yelena thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
As I started my creative journey, right from the start a very important key to keep in mind was what I will be sharing with the public, the connection I will create with my audience- how I want people to connect with me. Even If a single life is touched or inspired by my creations, then I’ve fulfilled my purpose. That’s true success to me. I am currently working on a series which is very other worldly, takes you into a realm beyond the ordinary and is energetically charged. The paintings don’t represent any specific objects or a story line, yet brings an intuitive understanding of what you are being part of while gazing at them by order, they are almost like a pathway to guide your subconscious. I hope I will continue maintaining this creative mindset and continuously deepening my understanding of our existence.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Its almost 10 years I have been creating Art and love every moment of it.For me it is very important to stay creative, and I advise that to everyone , you dont have to be an artist to create and make use of your right side of the brain, specially now days. I got known for my stippling/ pointillism technique works which were a huge part of my life as it completely thought me about discipline, silence, being still, going into full darkness and mastering my mind. Creating Art made me who I am today and also brought me amazing list of private collectors and new friends whom I am thankful for. No matter where my life path takes me in the future I am sure I will be creating something if not art. Parallel to my Art I have started my own Jewelry line, which I admire doing, Its a different feeling to see your drawing come into 3D form and people wear them, I am planning on adding more designs and hopefully they will get as much love as my art.
Meantime working on Acrylic Painting and brainstorming to do one more stippling work after.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Thankfully I “unlearned” within a year of my career that 1. thankfully there is no need to become famous to become a selling artist ( unless your someone who is after fame, then your a lost soul my answer was not for you)
2. Never compare yourself to “living artists” who sell over $1Million statues – they dont, their main job is real estate and business, those statues and art are real estate deals not artist+collector transactions. Continue concentrating on your art.
3. You have to be with a Gallery or in a museum to be considered Great! huge lie- Private collectors know a good talent – they also have the luxury to auction something great and get 3 times more money than what they have paid you.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Keeping your SOUL ALIVE
