We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yeimy Munoz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Yeimy, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
On my 12th birthday, my mother gifted me my first article of makeup: a small tube of pink lip gloss. I was enamored immediately! Soon after, I introduced myself to the makeup world as a whole. I started watching makeup tutorials online, looking up pictures for inspiration, and following some influencers. It became my passion. When I first started trying to do makeup on myself, you could only imagine how poorly it came out. Over time, I practiced everyday until I became a self-proclaimed expert. I want to help teach women how to put on makeup on because I remember how difficult it was for me when I had first started, and I want every girl to have the ability to feel beautiful.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a content creator dedicated to the world of beauty, I love making makeup tutorials for special occasions and for everyday use. All girls can learn to do professional makeup without needing to spend a lot of money on it, I want to help teach women how to put on makeup on because I remember how difficult it was for me when I had first started, and I want every girl to have the ability to feel beautiful. I want them to know that if I can do it, you can too! I feel that my differentiating quality is that my detail-oriented tutorials, I do my best to explain step-by-step so that even beginners can follow along.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I had realized that I wanted to start an Instagram page for my makeup tutorials, I struggled gaining followers and views. Receiving even a few like on a video was difficult for me. I spent a lot of time creating these video tutorials, and nobody would show me love. I posted for months and months to wait and see-I thought it was just part of the process. It was very frustrating and I was starting to lose my desire to be a content creator. However, I went back to the drawing board. I completely changed the way I did my videos: my background, my speaking style, aestetheics, everything. In addition to changing my video style, I messaged content creators to check out my work. One creator, loved my work so much and was so generous, that she gave me a shoutout on her story and that was my big break! I had gained 10,000 followers overnight, as her fans loved my content as well. The newfound appreciation for my hard work only reignited my desire to help others when it comes to all things beauty.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
A big inspiration of mine is James Charles. He produces his videos with such dedication, and his passion is infectious. Seeing his genuine excitement ooze through the screen, was not only motivational, but taught me how important it is to have people accept you for you for you truly are and not some phony internet persona. I try to incorporate his approach to content creation into my own
