We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yazmin Sandoval a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Yazmin, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?

Success means different things depending on who you ask. What I think is essential to be successful is to first and foremost believe in yourself. You cannot achieve much without believing you have the ability to make it happen! Along with self belief you also need a whole lot of determination,strength, and tenacity. When you focus on achieving your dreams and doing what brings you happiness, everything falls into place. I always encourage everyone around me to chase their dreams, no matter how scary or unattainable they may seem. I have come to realize that once you take that leap of faith, waiting for you on the other side is greatness and success waiting for you!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I am Yazmin Sandoval, Permanent Brow Artist and owner of Brow Goddess PMU, based in San Diego. I have been in the Permanent Makeup Industry for 2 years now, and it has been nothing but incredible. To me brows have always been so important, especially since growing up I always wished for the perfect brows. I absolutely loved the fact that the PMU industry had excelled so much throughout the years and was designed to make women’s lives easier. During the pandemic I got laid off from my dream Interior Design firm, so I decided to take the leap and train to be a Permanent Makeup Artist. I truly believe all women are goddesses, and should always feel beautiful and confident which is why I decided to open up Brow Goddess studio! My signature brow can be described as Natural, Refined and Balanced. However it is my passion to work together with my clients to help them design their dream brows just like they imagine them!

I specialize in Ombre’ Powder and Combination Brows. Ombre’ Powder brows are the newest permanent brow technique, and are created using a single needle cosmetic tattoo pen that deposits pixels to achieve a powder makeup brow! This service is great because Ombre´ Powder brows can be customized to look natural or bold! On the other hand, Combination brows are a blend of Microblading hair strokes in the front of the brow then followed by powder shading in the body and tail of the brow. Combo Brows are the best of both worlds and are for those women who are looking for a very natural brow. Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

Building my social media audience for my business has been a very fun and unique experience! I opened my Permanent Brow business back in October of 2020, amidst the pandemic. Nobody knew when the madness would be over, but all I knew is that when the world opened back up, I was going to be ready!

I think when it comes to Social Media, it’s really about being your true authentic self and figuring out what your brand is, and sticking to it. Once you have a clear vision about who you are as a business brand/artist, then using social media becomes effortless! My advice for building your social media audience is to stay true to who you are and do not try to be like anybody else. Being consistent and always engaging with your followers also helps. Over time my Brow Goddess followers progressively started growing and gravitating towards me as I made sure to always keep my social media posts fun, educational, and uniquely me!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?

The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has definitely been listening to my potential clients. It is essential to build a relationship with potential clients, and not jump to the pitch right away. As a service provider, I am solving one of their issues which is that they are unhappy with their brows. It is so important to listen and note what exactly are your potential client’s wants and needs. There needs to be trust established prior to securing a permanent brow appointment. I am always readily available and make sure to answer any questions my potential client’s may have about my services. My clients are absolutely everything to me and making sure they are always taken care of and appreciated is very important to me. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my beautiful clients. I am so grateful for my client’s who have given me their trust and have helped contribute to growing my beauty business. It has been a wild ride but one that I do not want to get off of.
