We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yazmin Mendoza a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Yazmin, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I think that to be successful it takes a lot of courage to change your behaviors and believe that you are capable of everything you dream of, but to achieve it, you must put in the sweat and hard work, and sometimes you will find that courage when you least expect it.
I’m a realtor in Seattle WA, backstory to this. I was in property management for 10 years and I had always wanted to be a realtor but I never thought I was capable of doing such an important thing, I didn’t think I was good enough and I always had that on the back of my mind.
I was always working 10 plus hours for someone else’s company but never really worked on myself to grow. Until I got a senior management position with my previous employer, and I knew that to move to the next position I needed to pass my real estate exam to become a Regional Manager with my employer or at another company.
I took my exam 4 times, and the first time I took it in 2020, I remember I said to myself ” Its fine I don’t need this” and I had almost given up until 1 year later, I remember getting upset at my supervisor and thinking to myself what am I doing I need to pass that exam so I can move up, I started to study again and I took the exam 3 more times and I didnt give up until I passed it.
My last attempt I remember getting home at 7pm and going to bed at 12am just studying and that’s when I passed, I had to take the exam and the studying seriously because at first I was not putting in the hard work.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Yazmin Mendoza, 28 years old. I am a Dreamer which means Daca recipient. I am able to work in the United states because of the Dream Act that was passed in 2012 by Barack Obama. I came illegally to the United States when I was 11 years old.
Ever since I came to this country, I had a goal in my mind which was to become financially free for my family, who has always provided everything I needed. But most importantly love. Love was the greatest thing I grew up with with my mother and siblings.
In middle School I was always in the Honor Roll, in High School I graduated as Valedictorian. These were some of my achievements I told myself I needed to do to make my mother proud and to grow in this country.
Shortly after graduating we moved from Oregon to Washington due to my sister’s work promotion and that’s how I started to work in real estate as a Leasing Agent. I was promoted within my first 8 months of work to assistant and after my first year as an Assistant Manager promoted again for a Manager Position. I did property management for about 10 years and got all the way to a Senior Management position, my goal at that time was to become a regional, however things didn’t go as planned.
My previous employer broke my heart and that’s how I decided that I didn’t want to ever again work for someone else’s company and to start my own and this is how Unstoppable Realty LLC was born. I have sold $1,897,000 in my first year of real estate and I was able to get my first listing this December which I’m hoping to get under contract by the end of the year.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that I’m capable of doing anything I want as long as I put in the work and that some people will use you for their own benefit.
I didn’t believe I could do real estate and that I was not good enough for it so that’s why I put that goal aside and instead I worked for someone else’s company to become a regional manager.
I always had amazing relations with all my employers/ regional managers and I thought I had a good one with the owner of the previous company I worked for.
He taught me what not to be when I grow my business. I feel like if you say you value someone, you will be respectful of that person and what could potentially happen to them. Letting someone go from a job if it is not related to their work ethic should be brought to them as soon as they are aware of such news, because it could really impact someone’s life.
Thankfully for me I had previous bosses who open up their doors at the companys they were, I was also in the look for a new job because the owner knew of few issues I had with my direct supervisor but I didn’t quit because I thought he cared, and the funny thing is that when I started working for hes company I had my previous employer reach out to me trying to get me back for one of the properties that I was helping out before leaving, they offered me 3 different incomes, even the VP asked her to called me with the highest they could offer which was about 20k over what I was making, however I thought I owed my employer loyalty because of the title he had given me so I turn the offer away.
I learned that in business the only person you owe something is to yourself. This is when I decided I had nothing to lose and to not accept a job offer until I gave it a try at real estate. I remember saying to myself if it doesn’t work out I can always go back to my previous career.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
What has worked the most for me is building relationships and treating my clients with respect, and truly care for their well being and not to see them like a business transaction.
I work every single day like if I was getting paid. Which means, cold calling, door knocking, marketing throughout my social media, open houses, etc.
I take other agents’ advice very seriously especially if they are successful and I try to always look at everything with a positive attitude because you attract what you think.
I also never turn someone down, I answer my phone at all times, even when I’m not feeling well. There is so much competition out there in order to succeed you must really stand out from the crowd, I also always keep my word and when I say I will do something I deliver.
