We were lucky to catch up with Yazmin Medeiros recently and have shared our conversation below.
Yazmin , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
The story of a risk I’ve taken
Since launching my business in 2020, I’ve faced numerous challenges and opportunities that have required courage and belief in myself. One of the most significant risks I took was leaving a career in biochemistry — a field I studied and dedicated years to — to pursue my passion for creating memorable events and celebrations.
Balancing this transition was especially difficult as a new mom, raising children while stepping into an entirely new industry. I knew it would be a gamble, but I believed in the power of my vision and the value of bringing joy to people’s special moments through events like weddings and intimate parties.
In the last year, we expanded into California and Japan, markets that are vastly different yet full of opportunities. The support from local business owners in these regions has been incredible, and it’s been inspiring to see how taking risks and working hard can open doors in new environments.
This decision to shift careers was undoubtedly one of the hardest and most rewarding risks I’ve ever taken. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, but it’s also allowed me to grow personally and professionally, leading to a thriving business that celebrates life’s most meaningful moments.

Yazmin , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
About Me and My Business
I am a passionate event creator and planner based in Hawaii, dedicated to making life’s most memorable moments truly special. I started my business in 2020, driven by a love for celebrating love, joy, and connection through beautifully crafted events. Growing up in Hawaii has deeply instilled in me the values of community, Aloha, and love for one another—values that are at the heart of everything I do.
Our company, The Agency Collective, is built on the strength and spirit of a team of strong-minded women who are mothers, wives, and close friends. Many of them once were our clients, and now they are an integral part of our creative family. We believe that success is a team effort—no one person can do everything alone. It takes a collective, a group of dedicated individuals working together to bring a vision to life and achieve extraordinary results.
We offer a range of services, including designing and coordinating weddings, intimate parties, and special gatherings—each tailored to our clients’ unique desires and personalities. What sets us apart is our collaborative approach, attention to detail, and creativity, all rooted in a genuine desire to create meaningful, stress-free experiences.
Having expanded into California and Japan, I’ve learned the importance of adaptability and the power of community. I’m most proud of the trust and support from our clients and fellow business owners, especially as I transitioned from a career in biochemistry—a field I studied and loved—to pursue my passion for celebrating life’s moments.
Ultimately, I want potential clients and followers to know that at The Agency Collective, we’re about more than just events—we’re about creating lasting memories, fostering love, and building community through every celebration. Our work is driven by heart, creativity, and a collective spirit that makes everything possible.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
The story of how I met my business partner
My journey with my business partner, Maho, began through a deeply meaningful event. She was a bride I had the privilege of working with as a day-of coordinator for her wedding on the North Shore of Hawaii. Maho, originally from Japan, was one of the most organized and intentional brides I’ve ever worked with. She knew exactly how she envisioned her day, and despite a few hiccups on the morning of her wedding, we worked together to ensure that the most important person—her mother—who was facing medical issues, was able to attend her wedding. We managed to coordinate transportation so her mother could be there to witness this beautiful day.
Her wedding was a heartfelt celebration with her close family and friends, embodying love, community, and resilience. After the event, she reached out, expressing her interest in learning more about what we do and exploring ways to collaborate. I was honest from the start—training someone in our processes would be challenging because I had never documented them before, but her curiosity and dedication inspired me.
Over the next year, we worked side-by-side—participating in every phone call, meeting, and planning session—to understand the full scope of what The Agency Collective offers to clients and other businesses. Her unwavering belief in our vision and goals grew stronger with each step.
Today, I am proud to celebrate not only our business success but also her personal journey. Maho is now expanding her family and has joined me as a fellow mother and business owner. Her trust, dedication, and friendship have been instrumental in shaping the heart of our company. Our partnership reflects the power of community, love, and believing in each other’s dreams.

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
One of my favorite marketing or sales stories
One of my most memorable moments was launching our first major campaign in California through a bridal showcase hosted at The Malibu Retreat. It was a bold and exciting step for us, as we were new to the California market and eager to introduce our brand and values to a new community.
We organized a beautiful bridal showcase at this stunning venue, bringing together local vendors, planners, and couples for a day filled with inspiration, connection, and celebration. We also planned a gorgeous runway show that highlighted local talent and showcased the creativity and love that define The Agency Collective. Despite being one of our first efforts in California, the event was a tremendous success.
At the same time, we hosted a photographers’ retreat that was sold out — a curated workshop led by talented photographer and father, Alex from Love Tribe Weddings. This retreat allowed local photographers the opportunity to learn from Alex’s expertise in the wedding industry, while also participating in styled shoots and setups we designed specifically for marketing purposes. We created beautiful styled areas and curated special spaces with local talent to showcase what we can do in design and creativity.
The community’s response was overwhelming—supporters attended in droves, and we received heartfelt feedback from vendors, photographers, and attendees alike. This event not only helped us forge meaningful relationships with local vendors but also introduced us to the community as a trusted and passionate team dedicated to creating beautiful moments.
This campaign taught me the importance of taking risks and embracing new opportunities. It showed me that with authenticity, community support, and teamwork, even a first-time event can leave a lasting impact. It was a pivotal moment that helped us build credibility and set the foundation for future growth in California.
