We recently connected with Yazline DeJesus and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Yazline, thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Growing up in a single family low-income home. I learned through all the many struggles in life to always take a risk on myself. Taking the risk when I decided to go away to college for 2 1/2 years to leave my home back in the Lower East Side and decided that I deserved more of a greater education outside of the area I had grew up all my life in. I needed to grow and to become my own person and not the person who always depended on their Mother/family. Taking that risk showed me that there was more out there in life than what a city girl would think. Or whether it’s taking the risk of going on a solo trip as a woman, just enjoying what life has to offer on your time and terms. I’ve always taken the risk for a better job/career because I know with my experience and life lessons that I deserve a livable wage. And lastly taking a risk was when I decided to start my 2 small businesses. Rose Queen Cosmetics & Rose Queen Sweets. Im a baker, who also creates her own make up products.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
First hello, my name is Yazline DeJesus. And I have my own at home baking business called Rose Queen Sweets. As well I’m the owner of Rose Queen Cosmetics. I have a passion when it comes to baking sweets, from all those classes that were required to take in my school course, to the times I’ve actually worked for companies where I had to create sweets for. Cosmetics was always something I loved to have fun with growing up, but at times would be hard to use/wear with because of my sensitive skin. So growing up I decided I wanted to create a brand that would be great for people with sensitive skin types like me. If you’re looking to place a cake/cupcake/mini cake cups order I’m your girl! And if you were looking to buy your next lip gloss, glitter eyeshadows, beauty blenders, or press on nails I’m your girl as well! What sets me apart is that Im a small business Latina owned at home business. I make my orders with love, and with my knowledge and experience throughout the years. What I’m most proud of is that I can put myself out there and put in the work for my own business to potentially down the line not have to work a 9-5 type of job ever again, and finally be free from that system of life. Something I’d like to say is every way of support is appreciated!
How did you build your audience on social media?
How I built my audience on social media was having more than 1 platform. As well reaching out to those who are in the similar field as you, following, liking, sharing their business as well, building on your networking. I guess my 1 advice would be to not give up. Keep posting, keep sharing, keep creating. Become better at what you do and never give up on becoming your own boss one day.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was to think that a business was built over night. Till this day I always find ways to better my businesses and how to create more content to put out there. I’m still working on being consistent in my marketing. Just finding every way to be better at what I do.
