We were lucky to catch up with Yasmine Payton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Yasmine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I love this question! My parents did a lot of things right, one of the most important things though might have been emphasizing the importance of loving yourself, flaws, and all. It’s funny, my dad is a Leo, my mom was a Leo rising (Rest In Peace) and I am a Leo rising and one thing we all love is me (and ourselves LOL) Their teaching me to love myself has impacted my life and career because from them I learned how to dress and how to strut through life with confidence.
My mom and dad always took pictures of me and made a big deal of all events and holidays which translated to my life and how I celebrate myself and my milestones. My mom has created photo albums for myself and my brother for birthdays and major accomplishments. Being able to see my growth and recall of some of the moments are important because they inspired me to document and also share my journey as a lifestyle content creator with my audience and also provide that level of honesty and transparency for my students as they are growing and learning to love themselves.
Yasmine, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My brand name CallmePayton came from me literally telling people to “call me Payton” because often time my first name would be mispronounced even after correction. I received my undergraduate degree in Public Communication and as an alumna of the High School of Fashion Industries, fashion has been and always will be my passion. I am also a freelance model and my “9-5” is teaching US history.
I’m all about aesthetics, presentation, and personal branding. I encourage my audience to learn about themselves through conversation and personality assessments and use my knowledge of fashion to support them in finding the most suitable colors, silhouettes, patterns, and fabrics for their body type and lifestyle. I tap into my teaching skills and ability to differentiate between different learning styles to provide information.
I help my clients figure out what to wear to different events, how to take pictures in the outfits or just in general, and how to build confidence, I provide the whole package.
What’s most important for my potential clients, followers, and fans to know is that a personal brand is ever-evolving, being your best brand is being your best self.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative, might sound cliche but seeing your vision come to life. The ability to make something out of nothing makes you more aware of what you are capable of when you have limitations or free rein. There is nothing more rewarding than documenting and reflecting on the planning to the presentation process.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The mission that drives my creative journey is understanding that there are a million ways to help clients solve a problem and clients choose you for the unique experience you provide. It keeps me motivated in an industry where there are so many people doing exactly what you do. My goal is to build confidence in clients and the method I use to do so is through coaching, education, wardrobe consulting, and motivational speaking.
