Yasmine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
My first job interview took place at a local chain. I had to perform a fade haircut. I was so inexperienced. I could not complete the haircut. My interviewer completed the haircut for me. When she was done she asked me,”When can you start?” I was shocked to receive the job offer!

I am Yazzy of Jazzy Yazzy Stylez. I operate a single operator grooming suite that is committed to precision grooming care in a luxury environment. I began operating in the suite as a solution to satisfy grooming needs during the COVID pandemic. My clients love my attention to detail and their ability to relax in my environment. I provide knowledge and expertise regarding their hair care. I am most proud of the loyalty I have generated in five years of service.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I believe it’s important to seek mentorship in this industry. I am always seeking professionals who are successful in different areas of what I do. I have connected with event planners who are masters at networking, hair artists who are passionate about teaching other’s fundamentals and advanced skills, and people who know how to build and maintain genuine connections with people. It helps me sustain my business being connected to them.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe I have been able to build my reputation because I haven’t been afraid to step out of the box. I have been willing to showcase my skills on various platforms to promote my work. The platforms include hairshows and beauty school visits. I have also been happy to allow future professionals to shadow my business. My reputation has also been established by my willingness to refer people to qualified professionals if I was not able to perform the service.
