We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Yasmine Jones. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Yasmine below.
Yasmine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
In today’s fast-paced world, many individuals find themselves trapped in jobs they dislike, solely for financial stability. My husband (Daniel Jones) & I own an Event Venue (Savannah’s Event Center) & a Multimedia company (GoodBoy Multimedia) here in Detroit, Michigan where “We pride ourselves on giving people the ability to stop doing things for money and start doing what they love” and that’s our mission on a day to day.
Happiness and satisfaction can stem from engaging in activities that align with one’s passions. This approach allows individuals to lead more meaningful lives, leading to increased overall well-being and contentment.
When individuals are engaged in activities they are passionate about, their creativity and innovation flourish. By enabling people to break free from the constraints of mundane jobs, we empower them to explore their full potential. This, in turn, leads to the generation of fresh ideas, unique perspectives, and innovations that can drive progress in various fields.
When individuals are passionate about their work, they are more likely to invest their time and energy into it. This heightened dedication and enthusiasm translate into increased productivity and success. By aligning their work with their passions, individuals become more motivated, focused, and driven to excel, ultimately benefiting both themselves and the company they work for. We acknowledge that a fulfilling life extends beyond the boundaries of the workplace.
Through this mission, the company strives to transform the way people perceive work, encouraging them to break free from the confines of financial obligations and embrace a life filled with purpose and joy.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Yasmine Jones. I am 27 years old, from Detroit Michigan. I attended Wayne State University for 2 years in hopes of becoming a nurse. My sophomore year my then boyfriend, now husband/business partner proposed. We decided it would be best to make it my last semester at WSU and transition into making his company, Goodboy Records our family company. Five years later, we now call it Goodboy Multimedia, a one-stop shop for all your multimedia needs. With services like videography, livestream, disc jockey, photography, & photobooth to name a few, we are able to capture any event. Our main focuses are Corporate, Church, & Ceremony. We have been blessed to work with some of our favorite brands & companies like Mercedes Benz, Forbes, NAACP, & Cadillac.
Last December we decided to take the one stop shop to another level. What’s an event without a venue? We always knew we wanted a space to house Goodboy but also offer to clients as a venue for their events. Savannah’s Event Center is just that! Our slogan is “Gathering Just Got Better”. A space at the intersection of modern & luxury. We designed it as an open concept, so that any vision would be able to come to pass. We are able to accommodate birthday celebrations, baby showers, graduations, prom send-offs, receptions, & so much more.
Having two businesses has not been easy but we always bring ourselves back to all of this, once just being a dream & it is now our reality. We are training & teaching our team members and currently looking for more to join.
We are excited for both of our businesses to continue to flourish. We pray to one day, have 4 venue locations & for both businesses to be able to run on their own.
How’d you meet your business partner?
We met at church! We we’re best friends for over 10 years before we got married. Growing up as best friends, my husband & I always helped each other get closer to reaching our dreams. My dream was once to be a wardrobe stylist. I’d take lots of pictures to show how I could style my clients & my husband (Daniel) was always the one taking them. He grew to really like photography during that season, became really good at it and eventually started offering it as a service. Being that we were always together, I eventually learned as well, even started going on some of the jobs. Once we got married, we decided to make it the family business and become partners.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Unlearning can be the hardest part of running a business. We have been unlearning the thought of doing everything ourselves. Sometimes when people don’t put as much effort, energy or passion into the thing that took you so long to build frustration will tell you to just do it yourself. With that comes burn out, less time doing things you love & being with the people you love. We have leanred to train & teach based upon people’s strength & their passions. It’s a breath of fresh air to have help.
