Yasmine, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Scrandie Beauty is all about innovation and no-frill makeup products. We exclusively develop and launch refined versions of products that already exist or are entirely new and have never been done before. The beauty space is highly saturated with products that have existed for decades. At Scrandie, we only want to develop new makeup products people didn’t know they needed. We exclude bulky wasteful outer packaging and reuse various materials during the manufacturing process to reduce waste, keep costs low, and pass the savings on to our customers. We invest in the things that matter–reliable packaging and high-quality formulas. Scrandie is also vegan and cruelty-free.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have always loved makeup from a young age. I knew I wanted to be highly involved in the beauty industry so I attended FIDM in Los Angeles to get my BA in Beauty Merchandising and Marketing. During my schooling, I interned at many well-known beauty brands and before graduating, secured a job in the industry where I learned to run a brand from beginning to end.
Later on, in my career, I took the step to break away from my corporate beauty career and officially dedicated my time and money to get Scrandie Beauty off the ground. It took many long days and nights to get Scrandie on people’s radar and still to this day takes a lot of effort to gain traction. Making the products comes naturally to me, but getting people’s interest is a whole other ballgame. Once my lip plumper went viral on TikTok, Scrandie was exposed to millions of people and gained thousands of customers in a very short amount of time. For that, I am super proud and extremely grateful for the influencers and customers that played a key role in jumpstarting my brand.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I knew from a young age I wanted to build a brand of my own one day and it required capital. I didn’t want to borrow from banks nor did I want to ask anyone to help me fund my brand. I saved 15K total from my freshman year of college into my early twenties to be able to start Scrandie on a smaller scale without having to rely on anyone else but myself for funds.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
My favorite marketing story thus far is when I DMed Chloe Cherry from the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning television show, Euphoria to try my products. She agreed and fell in love with the product and was featured in a Dazed Beauty interview as her go-to daily lip product. Getting a response was not likely, but it happened and set the tone for the rest of my career which is anything could happen so take that first step in making that task or dream come true.
