Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Yasiara Ortiz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Yasiara, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Do you remember being 17 and having to decide what to study? I was 17 and really confused and what I wanted to study and what college I wanted to attend, my mother who is european was talking about me going to europe my father was talking about me talking to staying in the Us or going to Canada and I was really confused, I wish at the time that I had had who I can speak about my aspirations and how to organice my ideas, and also what it meant to go to college in different states in the Us and even internationally, as someone who suffers the college application process it’s now my mission to help other figure out what is their best match for them.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I always wanted to have an impact in people’s lives. Finding out how I could do that took me some time to figure out. After college, I thought I wanted to follow my parents footsteps and become a diplomat so I studied economics and got a Master in International Relations.
I graduated the youngest of my class at 22, from an Ivy League, only to realize I didn’t want to become a civil servant.
I interned in a big media agency but felt uninspired by the accounts and the whims of the clients.
I got a job at Wall Street in NYC right after 9/11 but felt I was working in a graveyard and left.
At 23, I fell in love with an Italian and moved to Milan.
Naturally, in Milan, I got into fashion. Still something was missing.
It was only at 26, that I started working at a university and found my true love in education.
Soon I was consulting for several universities and high schools.
I left the consulting job on the side to create Misstudy, a college and grad school consultancy firm where students have the opportunity to apply to the best universities in the world
The road has been bumpy. To this day I’m reinventing myself.
It doesn’t matter if you’re 17, 25, 35 or 50, you are always on the move.
You’ve got to try things before you know what u like and what u don’t. It’s like tasting many different ice cream flavours before you decide on your favorite one.
Only with experience will you truly understand who you are and what you want.
And this is the chance that I have every day. I provide future college and grad school students with amazing education opportunities in the world, scholarships and opportunities to meet people around the world. only when you do what you want, can you truly be happy.
We´re simply the facilitator who opens a world of opportunities to you.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My business has been online since 2017 When COVID hits I was already used to work online my clients are made of students in the US who wants to attend college in the US or internationally and then international students who want to come the Us to attend college, I was able to cater more local clients as my international clients couldn’t travel, with my local clients I created different packages to respond to their needs even created a coaching for teenagers life coaching and mindfulness as a lot of them where facing not just the college application process as difficulties how to navigate their last year of high school, this shows that in the most difficult times you can be creative and keep your business flote.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
We are all about testimonials there is nothing more powerful than having real life people that test your services, we are ranked in google 5 starts
One of the parents says: From the moment we met her, Yasi and her team (Brigitte) have been a tremendous help with our daughter and gave us confidence that she was in good hands. We loved how she began with a session with us, and identified what area of studies our daughter wanted to pursue. Loved how she gave our daughter assignments to figure out what she wanted to do, researching careers and alumni who attended the school of her interest. They were very easy to communicate with, guided us in the right direction, provided all kinds of information, and were available at each step of the application process.
Having a high school senior during the pandemic wasn’t easy choosing her college, but she just got accepted to a great school thanks to Yasi and her team. Thank you for being such a great support.
One of our students says: Yasiara’s thorough guidance and recommendations were entirely established upon the interests I had shown a keen interest in. Her experience in the field exposed me to colleges and programs I wouldn’t have been introduced to otherwise. Yasiara’s enthusiasm in helping me reach my objective, made the college application process all the more enjoyable. It was a pleasure having gone through this process alongside her.
There is nothing more powerful than testimonial because it makes your services come real.
